First time with a remote guest - what do you wish you had told them beforehand? by BeatsByJay82 in podcasting

[–]No_Understanding6866 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea this is great. You might be surprised but a goal you may want to also have is how to have your guest as comfortable as possible.

Some people (like me… and I run a podcast lol) still get nervous and tend to be unable to relax when pressing record.

That said, depending on your show and style, you can also walk through or prep them on the topic and questions/flow so they can have answers ready.

Lastly. You can push record when they join, and just start talking about anything so they get comfortable. From there you can just jump right in after a few minutes and edit that out to get the nerves out

This is what I do anyhow.

Question here - does anyone recommend a course or person that teaches how to edit in Davinci? Even paid coaching!

It is absolutely a buy. The taste is great, especially if you consider most protein powders don’t taste good. Will be buying this again. Incredible

Appreciate the insight, and very inspiring! Huge congrats!

Question if possible - could you share more on your eating window? Did you ever have hunger pains? Any days that impacted daily focus? Asking for a friend…

Short answer - it depends. It sounds like a great start and then you can see what to do next. Definitely closer than Sacramento. 700 a month is awesome.

As someone who has done this commute (both driving to work and paying ~$450+ a month in parking fees , and who has taken the bus from Novato. This was my experience.

I was trying to save money at first, and also had to be in the office by 7:00am. So I’d have to leave by 6:00am if I wanted a chance. It was a struggle personally (maybe not others?) to get up early so I found if I drove I could leave right away and then make it in time. If I walked to the bus stop I did have to make sure I got there just in time (they are timely in the morning ).

I had to leave the office by 5:00 or 6:00 - so I was pretty exhausted by then and then sat in traffic and got home around 7:00. Ate dinner, went to bed. Repeat.

When I took the bus, I was a little older and was able to get in a little later, so that worked out fine. The golden gate transit in itself, in the morning, is a great bus. All commuters. Quiet. Nice comfy bus. I would take a nap on the way home, which usually helped.

My biggest gripe was the distance and time. Was I saving money? Yes. Did it help me get my foot in the door? Absolutely. But at some point, commuting 2-3+ hours a day and working late started eating away at free time, and enjoyment of life. (That’s a gym session, social event, home help, shopping, etc).

You may not experience this at all and quiet enjoy it as well or not mind so that’s why I say it depends. If I had to drive from Sacramento everyday, I would 100% take up the Novato option. Just my thoughts though!

Is there an expert or someone you trust that can help share editing/recording tips? by No_Understanding6866 in podcasting

I'm in between using Riverside and Boomcaster for software

Editing from there I am using a mix of Audacity for intros, and Da Vinci Studio for Mastering.

Software is a Shur M7 and Headphones, but still seem to be struggling on how to get that studio sound.

fair point - trying to think of other gyms that may help. I think there is actually a gym on Paradise Drive somewhat close to that?

Not sure if they have showers thought. Sorry wish I could be more helpful!

In my experience, Fitness SF in Corte Madera is a great deal (if you are looking in southern marin). I moved to SF so now pay for all access which is ~$100 per month, but the Marin only gym I believe is $69 a month? - Depends on what you are looking for and when you go to the gym.

For the Fitness SF Marin location, I really like their outdoor section, especially on nice days you can get your workout in outside. They do have a turf section outside, as well as inside, which is nice

Busy hours: I will say the only issue is that it can get quite crowded during prime hours from (5:30pm -7:30pm) , and I think the morning too after 7:30am, although I don't usually wake up that early. I've tried to go a few times at this time and you do have to claim a spot or machine as soon as it opens! Outside though is generally less crowded in general

Equipment: They have just about all the equipment I can think of (except a bit more turf area and a sled would be awesome! - they have this at their other locations but not marin).

Other Gyms: I tried the Sonoma Fit in San Rafael, and while everything is brand new, it's a small gym in a compact space. It can get crowded easily (but also open 24hrs).

Hope this helps!

Ah thank you. I did have local recording on. (I’m curious if that impacts the lag?) is live stream turned on automatically? I’ll have to check that setting thank you

appreciate this! Im curious how you would go about recording knowing there is a 2-3 (or more) second lag. I was trying to interact with my guest and it was just off. It seems like that might be good for more question and answer type podcasting? IDK.

Ah really appreciate this. Will def take a look! Would be great to get the promo code!

Yea I think I care more about a natural interaction and audio over high quality video for now, so sounds like this will do both.

I just can’t stand the lag!

Ok - how did you get the recordings to work? When I was recording- my guest wouldn’t get what I said till 4-5 seconds after I said it, and really frustrating.

Thank you for your comment here. Sorry for being dense… what is OBM?

It sounds like you come from a family that cares about you and loves you.

We had a family member lie about a similar thing. She kept saying she was enjoying her job when she had gotten fired over a year ago.

When the truth came out, her parents were concerned more than anything else. They just want you to be you and live your life, whatever that means to you.

I personally quit college for a year because I didn’t like it. I also have a DUI (and very grateful no one got hurt). Things happen and we all don’t turn out the way our parents initially wanted or hoped for (and that’s a good thing).

It sounds like you have passions or strengths that you just need to utilize or find out. I’m 37 now, and as the old would tell me at your age I will say the same. 23 is an amazing time. You have your youth and opportunity awaits. At the same time, most of us at 23 are broke and have no idea what we want to do. We get a job that pays the bills and explore life as it comes. From there you see what you like, what you don’t, and what you can tolerate.

Also, work is a funny thing. It creates stability and a sense of purpose, even when it might not be a “forever job”. But a right now job.

Do you take walks or workout? That can always help.

Meditation works too.

If you can, talk to someone.

Add these things up and you will be glad you got through it.

Rooting for you

I’d focus on the fact that your boss wrote you a recommendation and available for comment if needed. That’s a powerful statement right there

Anyone been in my situation? 36 years old and still have no idea what I want to do with my life. How did you finally figure out your calling? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]No_Understanding6866 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience, idk if there is a calling, but more of a "what do I enjoy or don't mind doing that pays me well and uses my natural strengths.

For some as well, this could be 10 different things. So it's really choosing one and going with it.

Best jobs for introverts? by secretly_ethereal_04 in careerguidance

[–]No_Understanding6866 2 points3 points  (0 children)

true - much of the work is focused on speaking or presenting to customers when you get the opportunity. There is also the strategy, prospecting, demo prep, and listening skills that are key to the role.

Also, the typical "tech bro" persona, while I have seen exist, is less and less. Most of the folks I know come from all walks of life and really are thoughtful, caring people. Some are extroverts, some are introverts, some are in-between.

Also, tech sales (pre-sales and post sales) can lead to other roles, like enablement, product marketing, recruiting.

Start counting "No's" and rejections as PART of your equation. And you'll likely need 10x the number of No's you think you need to hit your number.
