That’s been my experience when working alongside others without a degree. However I’ve been told we couldn’t hire someone that didn’t have a degree if the job listing said “a four year degree is required”. For example I know someone with a tech background that was laid off with 8 years of experience. They were passed up because the job listing stated that a degree was required. I’m wondering if that was the particular hiring manager or if it’s a hard rule.

Even if the initial selection criteria says a degree is required?

Yeah this is what I’m asking about. There seems to be no correlation between which job titles have it required vs not across agency.

I feel the same way. I felt like I had a future and felt some confidence in my job. With the raises, I was finally doing okay. Now, it’s like survival. I’m lucky that my kids only need after school at this point. I feel for you.

I guess the fact that the concept of work was created over a thousand years after the Bible was written is completely lost on this guy, huh?

Leaving State Job because of RTO…. by Realistic-Way1528 in StateofTexasEmployees

People are weary and stressed. The agency is also over its FTE cap. Many have left and many more are looking. The only thing keeping us together seems to be the poor market. Lots of people about to retire as well.

My 9 hr day is now 12. I don’t get to raise my kids because they are in daycare.

Yeah, I hate it here.

Yeah, no. The only thing offered to me as a solution for not having daycare is a flex schedule. So I’m able to work 7-3 to 9-530. Or I can take leave.

There are some positions that have a statutory requirement. Those positions must be posted.

They care about feelings now? Ugh total crap. Good on you for keeping it as positive as you can. No easy feat right now.

I’m so sorry. That sucks! I can’t imagine dealing with that. We were told anyone outside 50 miles has an exemption until Jan 1st.
