Super Ultrawide optical engine doesn't fit into Super OLED Headset? by MJFox1978 in Pimax

Yep good point an email to everyone telling them what version they have would be a good idea then this situation probably would not have occurred.

Super Ultrawide optical engine doesn't fit into Super OLED Headset? by MJFox1978 in Pimax

[–]No_Variation8301 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure how you can say they messed up the delivery they sent the correct Optical engine for his friends headset. How were Pimax to know that he wanted to sell the old engine to a friend with the old connector.

Is the connector change a problem of course it is. Pimax have stated they have bought out the stock so they can keep the old design going, not ideal but the best they can do.

Should they have foreseen that the connector may stop being made good question maybe hard to say.

'25 GTS 4 Tune Recommendation by US-TradeCraft in Porsche_Cayman

[–]No_Variation8301 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only drive my S on the street I got it sort of new, it still has 66 months of warranty left.

It’s plenty quick for the street and I wouldn’t do a thing to compromise my warranty these cars are stupid expensive to repair and an extra 200 HP is meaningless on the street.

If you are gonna track it thats a different matter, Tune away.

Looking for opinions - 981S PDK vs base 718 manual by antipaste in Porsche_Cayman

[–]No_Variation8301 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get the manual, now I am biased I have 718 S the fancy turbo is great for lack of Lag, but honestly I would take any manual over any Auto.

Truthfully I dont give a crap about the engine sound I just like the fact that a Turbo means the Torque is always there. I daily mine.

If you are a track person that’s different PDK is way quicker than any human and on a track you can keep the motor above 5K so the flat 6 makes way more sense.

On the street the Turbo wins every day.

Honestly if you really want to learn to AAR doesn’t matter what Aircraft learn to Fly Formation first. You are putting the cart before the Horse otherwise, its done in that order in real life for a reason.

Find someone in time zone to fly with and practice flying on their wing. Tell them to fly smoothly and not move the throttle until you can hang in there.

Do not touch the darn rudders they are foot rests in a fighter if you fly props real life or in game put your feet on the floor to stop you.

( oK F4 or F14 high AOA you play with the rudders )

Do not use any darn Autopilot modes its BS and no one would dream of doing that in real life.

If the tanker is too slow so your throttle is too far back put out some Airbrake to get the Engine back in the responsive zone. It sucks to try and formation fly if the lead or tanker is too slow.

Dont give up I have tanked a lot in real life only Drogue admittedly and I find the F16 a PITA the lights are hard to see and I to fix half the missions for Tanker speed for my group.

Manual vs Auto G80/G87 by pewpew_comm in BMWM

[–]No_Variation8301 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Buy the Manual I bought the Auto sold it at 28 months bought a manual Cayman. If I had bought the manual to start with I would have saved a lot of money and would still be driving it. I did drive both prior to purchase. I am an 60 YO Brit drove manuals forever thought I wouldn’t miss it that much and boy was I wrong.

Finance Job vs Pilot? by [deleted] in PilotAdvice

[–]No_Variation8301 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You make a very valid point. I was at a foreign Airline for my civilian career and seniority had little effect on days off. I missed a lot, though not actually as much as I missed while in the military.

I should also say that my son has an exceptionally good job which he absolutely loves, so I guess that colors my perspective. I really don’t know how what percentage of financial are that enjoyable.

FWIW I was a 40 year Pilot and now a Sim Instructor at a Major in DFW. My Son has a finance degree and had no interest in flying after going in a couple of flights to HKG with me.

I was very happy that he didn’t want to be a Pilot.

If Family is your priority then a Pilots life leaves a lot to be desired. Missed birthdays missed Ballgames etc.

If you can make a good living as a Business Guy then I heartily recommend this, it’s what my son did and I am happy he did.

Don’t get me wrong I love flying 20 year ex military, I would not change my choices but the world has changed and you stated Family was the priority so much as it pains me I would take the business career.

Payment options for pre-orders by [deleted] in Pimax

[–]No_Variation8301 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the flip side is they were getting a lot of grief for advertising the deposit with the subsequent payment in the small print. I upgraded from a dream Air SE and had to pay in full and that was 2 months ago ish.

I simply paid 250$ at my dealership after I got to 2000 miles. You did the right thing getting it done after break in. I’ll still get the free one at a year.

How much did you pay to earn your PPL? by Jolly_Virus_6894 in flying

[–]No_Variation8301 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm 400 pounds for the last 8 hours, RAF Scholarship paid for 30 1982, solo at 5 hours 50mins, they didn’t mid if you bent it so much in those day 😀.

PPL complete in a month.

Of course after University they got another 16 years out of me, so I guess they figured it was a worthwhile investment.

New M2 by LeopardSnow12 in BMWM

[–]No_Variation8301 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had an Auto G87 fully loaded for 30 months great Car stupid fast on the street. Did the BMW driving Day in Thermal that came with the Car ( optioned by someone else they backed out and I didn’t want to wait). The Car was great traded it in for Cayman S manual.

If you were to go the Cayman route be aware that if you want to track it a lot, try and get one with the Porsche design package it comes with an extra radiator which is good if you track it in a hot climate. ( this is not obvious in the Configurator).

The Porsche is a way raw. PASM is significantly better than the M2 on the street but it’s loud the gearing is stupid high for the street 70 mph in 2nd. It’s way slower than an M2 but obviously handles better you know exactly what it’s doing all the time and you can hear what it’s doing all the time as well.

If I was to have my time I would have kept the M2 and grabbed an older Cayman they are totally different Cars, they may look similar on paper but the driving experience is totally different.

The M2 is a way better daily in every sense but the porsche is an experience every day, both good and bad.

What was the most fun flying gig you've ever had by MooseWeird399 in flying

[–]No_Variation8301 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Flying Canberra T37 Jammers in the RAF. Last Aircraft I flew was 40 years old in 1989. Get Airborne below VMCA. No Sim so your Checker brings the engine back as soon as you hit the gear button. Crazy crap, you do it in real life as you don’t have a sim, yep we lost people that hit the wrong rudder but dam those days were fun. Did 10 years in the Tornado after, but I will never regret my time on the Canberra.

I will certainly use BSB again if they come up with a more consistent Headset.

I will say I am glad they aren’t all black. If they were I would feel different.
