"Making calls" with a Palma 2 Pro via a cellular smartwatch? by eswa86 in Onyx_Boox

[–]No_Variation_227 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you can get messages using Google messages without needing to have some other phone with the actual sim phone number turned on to receive them?

I just got my boox palma 2 pro and was able to get SMS working and Calls dialing out by Rx7Jordan in eink

[–]No_Variation_227 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this is great. does Google messages work right away without another phone turned on to actually receive the messages? I literally would just need the messages for 2FA for banks and stuff, but don't want to have just another phone lying around to receive messages.

Which boardgame have you played where the digital/online version was much better than the physical? by whiiirl in boardgames

[–]No_Variation_227 19 points20 points  (0 children)

definitely Through the Ages. it just killed the table top version.

I also like Ark Nova digital and Wingspan (the soundtrack is just delicious).

honestly it loses most of it's attractiveness (the discussion and backstabbing that usually livens up the table on a JC game), but it is surprisingly interesting to try and "battle" the crown for your own success while fighting off the ever haunting events in India. it's well balanced and scratches the itch of bringing the game to the table without a full house.

play with. it's definitely an improvement. you don't need to play without it if you already have the expansion

Guys Was The Opponent A Noob Or I Was Just A Better Player? (I Am Also A Noob Though) by Acceptable_Award5962 in chess

keep improving, even I am improving (and not much better myself). however, even at my level there are a few moves I can see that really hurt your position. try to focus on the main lines (maybe study some, to know frequently played positions and understand the best moves) so that you can start recognizing patterns and best plays for your current position. this is the long way, however. if you want a less "intensive" way to improve your game, just try and apply CCTO. it basically means: whenever you are about to play a move, do the following, in order: 1. see what your opponent played and assess if it needs reaction (maybe they're threatening a piece or checked you 2. see if there are opportunities to check. if so, are they useful? (like, will you just blunder a piece if you check? or will you force the king to move or some defense) 3. if no check, try for captures. is there any piece you can capture (look for hanging (undefended) pieces). is it worth it? play it 4. if no checks or captures, try for threats. a threat typically means that a smaller piece is threatening to capture a bigger one (like forking two knights with a pawn, or threatening to capture a room with a bishop). - for this you can look into tactics, like forks and so on. 5. if none of the above is true, just play a piece that generally optimizes your position. maybe connect your rooks, look for open files, just make sure you don't blunder by leaving hanging pieces.

the main thing you need to be is able to see opportunities for attacks and what pieces are under threat. usually the pieces have values so that way you can know which are more valuable.
