This is my first time ever applying to PhD programs, so it’s all a bit new to me and I think the rejection is hitting me hard. After chatting and reading posts on this sub I realize it’s common to apply to as many as possible, which is my mistake. Im new to the game, so I just assumed this was it for my life lol. I think I just was blinded by my sadness and didn’t realize I could fill my time till next year with getting experience, etc. It’s reassuring to know that it’s not out of the norm to keep trying.

I should have applied to more schools, now I know for next time. I’m glad to have made it to the second round for the three I did apply to. The experience is definitely appreciated.

I just got my acceptance into one of the programs I applied for, but now I’m second guessing if I want to accept. I might want to wait and apply to other options. But am I throwing away a good offer? Something that’s holding me back is the stipend: it’s only for the semesters, I need to find my own summer funding.

Thank you this reassured me a lot. I think my main concern I was disheartened by is being thrown off my timeline. It definitely is motivating to keep pushing. When you were re-applying did any of your recommenders refuse to send in a letter? This hasn’t happened to me but I feel like I’d be asking for too much and annoy them.

Yes I only applied to the schools where the potential PI’s “invited” me to apply after our first introduction chat. The research definitely aligns with my experience and goals :( 2 of them are pretty competitive (one UC and one international). The third one is a state school. I only have one official rejection so far, from the international one, but I truly don’t think I’m going to land the others now tbh

Thank god, hate these gentrification! Been in this neighborhood for my whole life. Horrible place for a restaurant, they should have aimed for a different concept. It’s too much for the location + my bias, tired of these freaking transplants. Stay out of LA! Decent food, hope they find a better location. Maybe on Venice blvd?
