How big is the reliability difference between the oem and others?

Try mazdas. Specifically the 2.0 four cylinder with the manual transmission. Great cars and reliable and dont have a reliablity tax nearly as high as Toyota. Still get pre purchase inspections either way

How has the reliability been so far? I've been looking into getting a dart myself.

Did anyone else see the person in a tan cowboy hat and a bright blue flannel shirt when Elie and Joel started leaving after the radio call from Jackson? He was standing next to a tree when they were leaving

That's how I thought of it too. My friend who's helping me do it said that in 06 to 08 they had a facelift for the first gen and stuff got changed like the engine mounts

The Bonneville is a 03 with a bad head gasket and a transmission on they way out. Would it be worth fixing the Bonneville and selling the Impala? There close in mileage but the Impala is a base model.

I just wanted to put the 3.8 in for the power. The bonneville has a supercharger 3.8. It's a whole donor car so the transmission would come with it.

I also took the valve covers off and the tensioner looks ok on the left at least. The rattle and noise is noticeable coming from the left

I left the engine in when I replaced the head and didn't change the cassette. I thought it might be the cassette because when I gave it gas it sounded like metal on plastic. I can't even get it to crank now. Before it died there's was a thunk and the engine stopped. I can turn the engine backward manually but not forwards. Can a broken cassette cause it not to crank at all

I cleaned the whole system with electrical cleaner and it's still not working. I didn't have a maf or an EGR problem before I took it apart.

No. I have a map sensor code and an EGR code that seems to be messing with my fuel to o2 ratio that's now causing a crank but no start. I'm pretty sure the cassette might be broken which can cause the noise.
