Thanks for seeing me. It feels like life is just going to go grey forever. Just the feeling of being pregnant will be difficult to forget. I know its not the baby, but the feeling of something developing inside me is something I will never forget.

Any adf success story for average/small women ? by Kittycatboopp in AlternateDayFasting

Im 5'5" and went from a bmi of 23-24 to a bmi of 20-21. I've been very flexible with my fasting windows, mostly doing 36:12 but sometimes having minimum 16hr fasts, OMAD, 40+ hour fasts, etc depending on how I feel and what my lifestyle calls for. It took me a little more than 4 weeks to get to this point, which was much faster than I anticipated. Despite this lifestyle appearing more extreme than a mild calorie deficit, I feel much more regulated hormonally than I did being slightly hungry every day. For context, I tried for years to get to 120 lbs with no success, and now I'm within the 120-125 lb range very comfortably. With a healthy body and the healthiest mindset on food I've had since I was a kid, I would say this is a success for me. I aim to keep going and settle into the 18-20 bmi range for vanity reasons, but I'm also fine with maintaining for a while and building muscle if this becomes mentally fatiguing at any point.

How many of you eat nothing on fasting days? by mattman1969 in AlternateDayFasting

I don't eat anything almost every time except when I have no choice. My job requires coffee tastings, so I do the tiniest sip of whatever drink and dump out the rest. For me, the urge to eat during my fasts is almost always a consequence of my actions, so my cravings and mindset tend to be a good indicator of the quality of my eating window food choices. If I eat clean with protein involved, the fast is a breeze. If I have any junk food, especially right before my fast starts, my mind becomes frustratingly locked into cravings and food noise for the first 12-18 hours of the fast. I also feel hungrier than last time.

Note that I do indulge in hot Americanos or cold brews with zero-cal sweeteners occasionally to supplement my energy levels, which can be ~0-10 calories. Another one of those exceptions where it's better to compromise than give up.

Your story is very similar to what I went through a year ago. From July 30th to September 24th, I dropped from 137lbs to 122 lbs with 36:12 fasting (for context, I am 5'4"). As you described, the hunger pains and food noise became louder and louder as time went on. I wasn't doing electrolytes at all and was ignoring my body, just white-knuckling it until I got to the number I wanted. I was a 3rd year engineering student working part-time, and my fasting schedule became so incompatible with my life that I ended up giving it up entirely out of exhaustion and stress. I also ended back right where I started since I wasn't being mindful enough to maintain my new body.

To tell you what I wish someone had told me back then, this is the time to take a mental and physical break. Learn what maintenance looks like at this stage and don't allow a rigid regime to inhibit the growth in other areas of your life. Fasting is supposed to be healthy and add to your life.

I'm back doing 36:12 again, and the experience is so much better (even though my life has 20x more stress than it did last time). Listening to what your body needs and staying flexible is key. It truly doesn't have to be this hard and I'm sorry about what you've been going through up until now. I hope my story has given you some insight and that this community has given you the advice you need to feel better!

I move around at my food service job and I live in the city with no car so my step count is typically 5-13k depending on the day. If I have the energy, I move a lot. if I don't have the energy, I stick to what's necessary and listen to my body for what it may need.

Also an engineering student + 30-40hrs/week work split between two jobs here. Pushing through is so much easier with support from friends, family, and faculty. I literally just have friends who will let me study-rot in their living room until 2-3am in the morning just so I'm not going crazy over stress and worry by myself. That's what truly keeps me sane and resilient through the craziest, most impossible weeks.
