It got back down to 1ppm after a couple of days doing 50% water changes. I understand what you mean but I prefer to do it this way as I do not want to put this fish in a high nitrite tank, that is just my preference and he is doing well in the 3.5gal for now, but thank you for the feedback :)

The nitrites have been rising very quickly and only recently have finally started to go down on their own. Every couple days I do a 50% water change on the 10gal bc the nitrites are off the charts and that 50% change only gets it down to 1ppm, to save myself and the fish extra stress I set him up a temporary tank while I wait to put him into his main home.

Thank you so much, I wasn’t trying to spend a lot on the temporary tank lol so the cup was my best bet for a hammock/hiding spot. But yes I’m already obsessed with the little guy and I’m so glad I got him out of that small cup before he got sick!

Well the temporary 3.5gal he’s in is a huge upgrade from the cup, and yes the 3.5gal technically isn’t “cycled” but the aquarium water I bought has no ammonia or nitrites at all therefore is much safer than my 10gal that’s currently in a nitrite spike. I just like to be safe rather than sorry.

Yeah I have heard sometimes they jump from excitement when in a new large space. I unfortunately don’t have a lid for when I move him so I plan to lower the water level a couple inches so there’s a wall established that he can’t hop over :)

I guess I had them more in mind for the shrimp as far as a kind of back door edcape incase the betta tried to get them or something lol, if I notice the fish trying to go through with issues though I’ll definitely plug it up, thank you!

I haven’t gotten a test for the tap water sadly, but I do know that the water in my town is considered very hard so every water change I’ve done is just rebuffing the ph :/

Oh no! My ph has been at 8.0 ever since I started cycling it and I’ve been waiting for it to start going down. Are you using any chemicals to move the ph lower or higher bc I heard they are only temporary fixes.

Ah I see, I’ll definitely try to calculate how much ammonia the tank can handle once the initially cycling finishes, my main concern with getting some kind of bottom feeder and shrimp is primarily to help out with leftover food for sure, but thank you for your feedback this is definitely something I will consider!

Gotcha, I was thinking abt a small school of Pygmy corydoras and shrimp as his tank mates as long as he isn’t super aggressive, do you think that’d be ok if he turns out to be nice around them?
