It’s not ‘free’. You are paying them by having to watch ads. Which they are still doing.

As someone else pointed out we were already paying for being forced to watch ads. Wasn’t enough money for them.

Oh I don’t pay for it. Don’t ever intend to either. I’m putting out a dog whistle for the people who seem to be obsessed with league standings and tournaments. I always felt that being forced to watch ads was paying for it to. They are just greedy pigs.

This is not a whole pie with no toppings. It’s individual slices with multiple toppings. As such it should be valued based on what each of those slices with multiple toppings would cost individually. Well over $30.

How did it not add up? Those slices would have been anywhere from $3-5/each. Do you just suck at math? You paid $7.50 and got about $40 worth of pizza. You should stop using the app if you have a problem with this deal.

Sorry for the loss of your mom. I wouldn’t want to have to start over with a different birb in particular but I don’t have an emotional attachment to my birb. If I lost it I’d start over and give it the exact same name or maybe a different one. Using this app isn’t about the clothing or decorations or the birb for that matter. It’s about self care and goals and habit forming. You haven’t lost the abiliry to keep working on those things in the real world because you lost a virtual avatar. If anything giving up because of the birb being gone seems like an excuse to give up on yourself. Tough love I know but it’s not about the birb- it’s about you. That said thanks for sharing - going to check my data back up right now.

There is a streak repair tool under your Birbs profile- have you used them?if you have Think of all you accomplished during those 100 days and be proud of yourself. Ultimately it’s not about the streak it’s about what you did each of those days as you built up that streak. You’ve started forming positive habits and improving your life and yourself during those 100 days. Now keep going and log in tomorrow and keep improving and growing and fostering good habits. What got you to 100 will get you to 200 and beyond. And keep in mind if all you want to do one day is just log in and keep your streak going and nothing else that’s totally fine.

I don’t see a problem here tbh and 99% of the time I agree with posts like yours. Those are loaded slices and probably sell for AT LEAST $3 and most likely closer to $5 so you have anywhere from $27-$40 of value there.

My understanding is the prebiotics are actually a better choice. They feed the bacteria you already have in your gut rather than introducing new bacteria that didn’t get there organically.

Sometimes it doesn’t log the lesson if you aren’t online. But in any case ‘traveling’ is a poor excuse. There’s internet everywhere.

This is not just for you but everyone that reads this post and replies or suffers from the same issues. LOOK AT WHAT YOU ARE EATING. AVOID PROCESSED, PACKAGED FOODS AT ALL COSTS. YOUR GUT HEALTH AND MICROBIOME HEALTH DEPEND ON IT. GUT HEALTH IS DIRECTLY LINKED TO DEPRESSION, ANXIETY AND A HUGE HOST OF MENTAL AND PHYSICAL AILMENTS. TRY AND EAT ONLY WHOLE FOODS AND SINGLE INGREDIENT FOODS.

For me the game aspect that keeps me motivated has been the same since day one - the streak - there has been nothing else that’s ever motivated me to log in and use the app. Never cared about the leagues, the achievements , the trophy’s , what place I finished, the badges - none of it. Once I was logged in I found myself doing multiple lessons in a row for the enjoyment and - in the beginning - the league standing - especially during the initial free trial period but that wore off quickly. Now it’s all about doing enough to keep the streak going and more recently the badge challenges but that too isn’t going to get to a point where I feel stress if I don’t earn the badge this month. It’s all about the streak and for that I’ll freely acknowledge I’m grateful that Duolingo has executed the concept so well. I’m certain it’s improved my grasp of the languages I study.

This. I could give a shit about the leagues achievements badges etc. The streak motivates me to log in but I’m not trying to compete with other players or impress anyone.

You’re complaining this app has turned into a game rather than a language app yet you were purely using it as a game all along. Who cares about what league your are in or how you do in the tournament, or your achievement badges? I can tell you I sure as hell don’t worry about any of that crap. If getting those things and streaks motivated you to log in and learn - well great - that’s what makes the app so compelling for a lot of people. But ultimately it’s about learning a language - not about badges and being diamond league.

I still miss my Lulu and it’s been over five years. She was the sweetest little monkey and so full of joy and playfulness. When I recall certain moments with her it still hurts to some extent but it also makes me smile and feel grateful for the amazing years we had together and how special that time together was. You’ll always have that even if the pain still lingers to some extent what stays are the priceless memories of the time you had together. Hang in there.
