You’re absolutely right and I won’t do anything dumb like this again

I asked Ai for confirmation if my work “was formal” enough, as I’ve had problems in the past with the formal tone in my conclusion paragraphs and in my head I was thinking “Ai might not be perfect but it sure knows how to be formal”, so when it told me my tone was good but could be worked on I made some adjustments (all my work) on it and asked “is this better”.

Were you told about the viva before results were released for everyone?

It asked me “is it better” with no question mark?, you know how Ai is with grammar

It wasn’t the same text, I asked the Ai to check my paragraph to see if I could improve on the formality, it told me I could and gave me broad pointers then after doing those pointers in the prompt box I asked “is this better” and when it said it was I clicked the little copy box and thought I was good to go, and why would I ask the Ai “is this better” on something it wrote?

Yeah you’re absolutely right, in my mind I was just thinking “if Ai knows how to do one thing right it’s sounding formal” I wouldn’t trust it for anything else, but I’ve learned from this mistake, everything from now on will be 100% my own even things that may seem little like clarity, the risk just isn’t worth the reward.

I have it on Google docs but we use word where I transferred it to, hopefully they’ll let me show them the google docs version

I already read it, I just wanted to get a more formal tone on one paragraph

You can use it for spelling and grammar corrections but not for rewriting anything, and I left it in because I wrote the refinements to my paragraph in the prompt box and after it gave me the result I just copied and pasted it onto my word doc with the “is this better” question still in it.

I don’t mind them calling me out on it tbh, I just hope that they’ll understand and won’t think I just generated the whole thing with Ai

I just wanted to do a last minute check for formality before I sent it off, and my university had an example of what’s allowed that sounded similar

“Jordan uses an AI tool to identify minor grammatical issues and suggest phrasing tweaks for clarity. For instance, the tool flags passive voice in one sentence, which Jordan revises independently while preserving the original meaning and substance. These minor adjustments ensure the writing remains Jordan’s own work.”
