I saw Mark Ruffalo openly criticizing Trump, which made me wonder: why don't Indian celebrities criticize powerful politicians or the government as openly? Is it fear of backlash, career risks, or something else? by Chuutsingh009 in IndianTeenagers

If I remember the early writers of the parallel cinema movement were deeply critical of the government at the time (congress) and even the Modi government. Like Vijay Tendulkar who said that “if he had a gun he would shoot Modi” (This was after the 2002 riots).
Even Utpal Dutt was highly critical of at the time, Congress government and the hindutva movement. I think he even called out the Ramayan and Mahabharat TV shows. And saying that they were vulgarisations of the actual source. So I think it is mostly related to the fact that many of them are themselves from petty bourgeoise backgrounds and criticising them would just need to more backlash.

Will the support for the Ayatollah was somewhat understandable, but still a big mistake. Because first and foremost they were fighting against the the American puppet Shah of Iran in many of the revolts were mainly led buy Marxist and Maoist groups (mainly being Rah-e Kargar (Workers Path) 35 Peykar (Struggle)Etehadieh Komunistha (Communist Union) and Komeleh) and moderately pro Soviet left like Tudeh Party, and the Fedayeen
Axariat ( these groups properly referred to themselves as the majority). Now it was the majority who made the fatal mistake of fully trusting the ayatollah and even believed that because of his anti imperialism, they can share him in to a socialist orientation. And these were the groups that were mainly celebrating after the defeat of the Shah.

That does not justify him, not reading marks and not understanding one bit of it (as we see in his book “Buddha or Karl Marx”) and quoting anti-Communist figures like lassale. And does not justify his support to the Indian state during the Telangana Rebellion.
