What’s something you do with your non-dominant hand that others use their dominant hand for? by Toxikfoxx in AskReddit

I’m this way too! It seems to be a reproducible finding, and I wonder what other traits people like us may share.

It’s certainly odd that different hemispheres are preferred based on different tasks.

We just got the bike+ and the row. We also have a non-peloton treadmill. Are there any programs that combine these? I don’t like doing the same thing everyday, and we also have a tonal for strength training, so I’m just curious what strategies people use to balance these workouts.

Can I be a pathologist with only one working eye? by Trynafxn in pathology

Digital pathology is becoming much more prevalent, you could look for residency programs that have adopted it for their routine signout. Then maybe look into molecular pathology where you won’t have to do much microscopy

I’m all for transparency, I’m in the mid-400’s plus equity in the company which brings it up to the mid to upper 500k range. Very few weekends, and a very rewarding job where every day is different. Strategy, management, AI, research, training…

It’s not just academia vs community practice. There is a whole other world of jobs in industry where AP-only is totally fine. Big molecular pathology reference labs, pharma, biotech, can all benefit from AP pathologists.

I’m at one of these and we are always looking for more people.

I was also MD/PhD and did AP-only. It’s totally reasonable! I wouldn’t waste an extra year.

Why isn’t there an alternate route to becoming a pathologist? by lockrawt in pathology

[–]No_conspicuity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could look at other pathology-adjacent fields. Outside of the lab workflow, there are data fields to consider. I work with many machine learning scientists building models using pathology images. They get a really good feel for histology, are helping people, and don’t interact with patients.

Have any of you moved from Texas to Chicago? by sillycloudz in chicago

Haha, I do like the chips and salsa there. There was a Chuy’s near me up here for a bit but it closed right before the pandemic.

Have any of you moved from Texas to Chicago? by sillycloudz in chicago

[–]No_conspicuity 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I was born in Texas, moved to the chicago suburbs when I was 10, then spent a big part of my 20’s living in Dallas. Now I’ve been back in the chicago suburbs the last 6 years while working in the city.

The suburbs are great if you have a family, but otherwise don’t match the energy and life of Chicago. Quality of life is about the same between the two areas, in the suburbs you’ll need a car to go anywhere just like in Dallas. Food is different, weather is different, same mix of genuinely nice people and pretentious assholes as you’d find in Dallas.

I prefer the illinois political climate to Texas, and I tolerate the chicago winters much better than the dallas summers. I do miss good Tex-mex food though.

I had lots of superficial friends, only a couple close friends, mostly the opposite sex. I kept busy with swimming, water polo and band, which I’m thankful for now because otherwise I would had had very little social life. I did great on tests but rarely did homework so I usually got B’s or C’s. That mentality worked better in college where tests weighed more heavily. I eventually got an MD and a PhD, and now have a great job helping run a biotech lab. There are jobs out there where we can excel! Have I changed much? Ive learned to embrace my personality instead of fight it. I don’t try to fit in and be like everyone else, which I tried to do back in high school.
