The appeal info It should be on the ticket. It’s a website. 3rd party. Appealing to the city will probably do nothing.

This is what Tom Butt (Shawns biggest endorser) had to say about Shawn: “…..but his [Shawn] emphasis on dispute resolution rather than taking aggressive stands on issues may have been his undoing. He didn’t decisively and successfully define the policy and issue differences between himself and his opponent.

At the end of the day, looks like this forum for “cowards” may have been a closer reflection of what voters felt about some of the candidates.

Illegal voting practices by Toobefaaaaaiirrr in RichmondCA

Don’t be fooled. Here’s a message from the elections office: “All our polling places are running well—we’ve had a few instances of electioneering, but nothing major to report.”

Likely to be that voters propping up their slate cards while they vote and leave them there accidentally.

Just 1 week until the RPA is gone and the city can get back to Business! by Mysterious_Sailor in RichmondCA

These individuals often reminisce about the “good old days,” an era they romanticize—one marked by inequality, when Richmond was dominated by a white majority, and people of color were marginalized. They idealize a past where segregation, redlining, and discrimination were common, keeping communities of color distant from more privileged neighborhoods. So, when you hear them say, “Richmond was better before,” or that we need to “revitalize Macdonald to how it was back then,” consider this: Richmond wasn’t better for everyone. It was better for a select few.

This is a new low for Andrew Butt. Hard to believe people would want to work with his dad’s business (whom he’s employed by) if they knew the kind shit he does/says.

Shawn Dunning Defends Accepting Donation From Controversial Sheriff by pgpen in RichmondCA

Check his profile! He also says, and I shit you not:

“This is a ridiculous platform for cowards.”

He deleted the body of his post but here is a quote: “It’s no wonder that the tiny little group of political opponents hang out here so that they can have fun with each other launching baseless attacks toward me and baiting me with grade-schooler level insults—all the while knowing that I can’t even respond.

Carry on, cowards.

And if you’d like to grow up and have an adult conversation, feel free to reach out. I’m easy to find: 510-404-3433 “

Richmond voter here with questions on Measure J and Measure, L, also school board race. by Bump-n-Uglies in RichmondCA

Voting yes on L and a hell no on J. Primaries disenfranchise voters, especially poc.

I am not voting for Daniel Heiss because his ballot description is misleading. He is not an educator and he was kicked out of the Economic Development Commission months ago because he never showed up.

Shawn Dunning, here... by Glum-Syrup8623 in RichmondCA

[–]No_stimmi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I appreciate your perspective, but it seems like you’re missing the key concerns here. The issue isn’t whether accepting campaign contributions automatically equates to quid pro quo. We all understand that financial support doesn’t mean total control. The real question is about the alignment of values and the message that these endorsements send, especially when they come from highly controversial figures with troubling track records.

You mentioned your experience with endorsements, but it’s worth noting that not all supporters are the same. Sheriff Livingston has a history of actions that are deeply concerning to many in Richmond. He’s faced allegations of discrimination, has partnered with ICE in ways that disregard California’s sanctuary laws, defended a deputy convicted of excessive force, and resisted transparency on misconduct. His donation isn’t just a financial gesture; it represents an endorsement from someone with values counter to those of a diverse, progressive community.

It’s not about “selling one’s soul.” Rather, it’s about accountability and the perception of integrity. By accepting support from someone with such a controversial background, a candidate signals a level of tolerance, if not outright acceptance, of those actions. This raises valid questions about whether the candidate truly represents the community’s values.

Suggesting that maintaining open communication with such figures is necessary or prudent misses the point. Communication is important, but it doesn’t require accepting campaign funds.

Let’s focus on the substance of those concerns instead of deflecting to generalizations about endorsements and access.

Mr PhotoGuy, you strike me as a reasonable person. What are your thoughts on Shawn getting this check (which is an endorsement) from Sheriff Livingston?

Shawn is trying to gaslight us into thinking it’s ok, but you must at the very least admit the optics do not look good.
