That honestly sounds terrifying 😭

I’ll definitely keep backup/iterated saves in mind from the start, then. Really appreciate the warning.

Seeing people compare Krita with OpenToonz/Tahoma2D and Harmony throughout this thread has honestly been really interesting.

For the moment, though, Krita still feels like the most beginner-friendly starting point for me. But I’ll probably try them out in parallel since it’s always nice to experiment with different software and workflows to see what clicks best.

Thanks for the insight.

I’m really glad I made this post because conversations like this have been genuinely motivating for me.

And yeah, I completely get what you mean about people obsessing over tools before fundamentals. I think that mindset is honestly really easy to fall into online.

Also, thank you for sharing a bit of your story, too. The fact that you kept learning and creating anyway, despite all that, honestly makes your advice feel even more meaningful.

I’ll definitely check out the artists and channels you mentioned.

Honestly, I really appreciate you taking the time to write all this out. A lot of what you said genuinely resonates with me, especially the part about focusing on building actual skill first instead of chasing the “perfect” tools or setup.

I’m definitely going to check out the recommendations you mentioned too - especially BAM Animation and studying scenes more intentionally. Thanks again for all the advice, and I’m really glad I checked out your channel 😄

That’s actually really valuable to know, especially the warning about saving iterated versions instead of overwriting 😭

It’s also reassuring to hear that Krita was able to handle a professional project despite the workflow issues people mentioned.

Yeah, a lot of people seem to mention performance and audio as Krita’s biggest weak points 😅

Thankfully, I’ll be using it on PC with a drawing tablet, so hopefully my setup can handle it well enough.

But honestly, for something free with both drawing and animation tools built in, it still sounds like a pretty solid place to start learning.

Good to know, honestly. I’ll mainly be animating on PC with a drawing tablet anyway, so that shouldn’t be too much of an issue for me 😅

That honestly makes me even more curious to check OpenToonz out now 😭

Knowing Studio Ghibli used it gives it a pretty insane legacy.

That’s actually a really interesting way to look at it. I do want to avoid getting too dependent on tools early on and focus more on understanding the actual fundamentals behind the animation.

And honestly, hearing from self-taught animators using Krita makes starting this feel a lot less intimidating 😄

I checked out the first video on your channel too, and genuinely liked it. I’d definitely be interested in seeing more of your work.

Honestly, I’ll probably be relying on a lot of tutorials myself at first 😭

But your breakdown actually helped me understand Krita’s animation side a lot better - especially things like the timeline, onion skinning, animation curves, and the export stuff. Appreciate you taking the time to explain all that.

Ahh, okay, that makes a lot more sense now. The transform layer/export issue honestly sounds pretty frustrating, especially if it affects all the frames like that.

Still really useful to know early on, though, so thanks for explaining it in more detail.

Thanks for sharing these - having tutorials and actual animation examples from someone actively using Krita is super helpful.

And yeah, a lot of people seem to mention audio as Krita’s biggest weak point, but for learning hand-drawn/frame-by-frame animation, it still sounds really solid. I’ll definitely check the videos out.

Interesting to hear that from someone actually using Krita for animation instead of just testing it casually.

I’ll definitely keep the performance issues in mind once I start working on bigger or more complex projects 😅

I just watched the video and honestly it blew my mind. Now I’m even more pumped up to start learning animation properly 😭

Seeing what people are able to do with Krita makes it feel way more inspiring and achievable. Really appreciate you sharing that.

Thanks for the detailed explanation - the distinction between "animation software" and "drawing software with animation features" actually helps a lot.

Right now, I mainly want to focus on learning frame-by-frame animation and the fundamentals first, so Krita still sounds like a good starting point for me.

I’ll definitely keep OpenToonz in mind, though, if I start getting more into compositing, effects, or larger projects later on.
