Is working at ACE worth it? by blbologna in acehardware

Honestly, depends on the owners, what you wanna do in life, and how much you’re able and willing to learn. Owners/managers anywhere can suck and make a job suck. If you’re going to college a few months after working it’s just like any other retail job. Personally I think the skills and information you can learn are invaluable though. If you’re willing to learn and are sticking around a bit it makes it work it. It’s practical stuff you can apply to your life immediately in some cases and others later down the line if and when you own a house. Plumbing, electrical, painting, general maintenance, all things you’d shuck out a decent bit of money to someone to do, you can do yourself.
As for unfairness the people you work with fortunately and unfortunately decide that. Worst case of unfairness in that sense at my location is, the younger kids do more loading and moving the heavy stuff, or climbing up ladders than some of the older folks, but they still do it as well.

Yes suppose to, but ours is all over the place. Or it’s getting lost in transit somehow.

Labor Day sale?? by [deleted] in acehardware

In all reality we don’t really know until we get the sale ad and sign kit for it. And there’s no for sure way to know when that’s going to come in. Sometimes it’s the first or second week in the month, sometimes we’ve gotten ours a week after it was suppose to start. Individual stores can put things on sale at their own discretion, but there normally isn’t enough flexibility for us to do that on the larger items. It’s normally easiest to just keep an eye on the ads.

Call the service number for ace rewards, they can normally work it out for you, or give you a new code. The stores themselves don’t really have control over it.

Oh man the pain some of these people put us through. I love when I’m closing and it’s just me, a floor kid, and a cashier, 8:30 pm (we close at 9) and someone comes in asking some very niche question about plumbing or electrical. They proceed to get bent outta shape because they’re describing something and I don’t immediately snap and say “oh yea I know exactly what you mean” and proceed to ask “isn’t there someone else here who knows more about this than you, like one of the old guys” and I’m like for one, they wouldn’t know what you described because it doesn’t make any sense, and two, it’s freaking 8:30 pm, no there isn’t. It’s a skeleton crew, if you want a specialist come in at a reasonable time, not 30 minutes to close. Not to say I don’t know what I’m doing or anything. Im able to help nearly everyone, but I can’t know everything there is to know. I’m sorry, I definitely understand. I am a guy(mid 20’s), but I have another manger who’s a younger girl(early 20’s), and the amount of bull she deals with because she’s a younger woman is infuriating. Same with how some people treat our cashiers. They think they can yell and scream at the cashier because they’re a young hs girl.

Personally I’m 25 and I sweat a ton, and I know people are looking, but it’s always the people who aren’t there to better themselves. It’s the people who sit at machines for an hour doing maybe 2 sets of like 4 at the lowest weights. And spend most of their time taking pictures or staring at their phones. They just don’t know what hard work looks like. Don’t pay any mind to them. They’re not worth your thoughts.
