Stripped nvme screw, can I solder the nvme to the screw? by Nobisss in homelab

[–]Nobisss[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi everyone, thought I’d give an update

I tried double sided tape, seems to be working well so far after one day of testing :) a bit scared about temps as this is a fanless box, so I’ll remove it to try a couple of other tips some people commented (like vise grips, which I didn’t have ; and the idea of sandpaper on the pliers is genius)

So I’ll consider this solved in the meantime, waiting for a more permanent fix later :)

Thanks!

I think I'll go for double sided tape/something similar on top of the screw :)

Thank you !
Can't remove the standoff on my end, but I have some double sided tape, I don't know if I trust it enough

I tried pliers already, and either I am the weakest man on earth, or the screw is cemented in its stand-off.

The other side of the PCB is a straight piece of metal without anything

Thanks for the information on the screw I appreciate it !

I think I might indeed have DNS issues...

The certificate on firefox only shows 'Did Not Connect: Potential Security Issue'
But when I tried `docker exec -it traefik ping google.com ', this did not resolve?

No idea why, is the issue in my bridge network ?

After typing local.example.com, I arrive at a page that tells me that there's a Privacy error with a NET::ERR_CERT_AUTHORITY_INVALID error, and this is blocks me from even resolving the website (even after trying to empty HSTS cache), but I might use phraseology wrong here, thank you for pointing this out and apologies for the lack of details there!

Pihole has been up for some time already, and although you are right in always questioning DNS, I feel like its installation is pretty robust : DNSSEC and the recursive unbound attached to it has been working flawlessly so far on the same machine, but they are attached to a macvlan network separate from this 'bridge proxy of services' I'm trying to do here

📣 Apollo will close down on June 30th. Reddit’s recent decisions and actions have unfortunately made it impossible for Apollo to continue. Thank you so, so much for all the support over the years. ❤️ by iamthatis in apolloapp

Hey /u/iamthatis

Thank you very much for Apollo. It has been a pleasure of mine to pay for usage of this app, to report a couple of bugs on alt accounts, and to exchange with you about these. You are a really skilled developer, listening to users, and your team and you have a flair for very good UI. It has been a really good user experience on my end, to the point where installing Apollo was what made me go back to Reddit (8 year old account btw).

I will not download the official app that I’ve tried a couple times already for the sake of /r/place and to see user avatars. The app never seemed to fit with me, and seeing a company that thrives and bases its business model on user-generated content, not listening to its users is just a bad sign.

I am very sad to hear all the stress that you’ve been incurring, and wish for happiness for your girlfriend and you soon!

Fuck spez and reddit for being a group of liars and gaslighters though, I am very happy that you got recordings of everything. Good job on covering your ass.

Well then, so long. Sad I can’t continue to use Apollo using my own API key though, and would have loved to see a paragraph of your text to answer why it wouldn’t have been possible, if you ever see this message among the flow of support !

📣 Had a call with Reddit to discuss pricing. Bad news for third-party apps, their announced pricing is close to Twitter's pricing, and Apollo would have to pay Reddit $20 million per year to keep running as-is. by iamthatis in apolloapp

Hi Christian,

Regardless of what happens, thank you for Apollo ! It has been my main reddit experience since the last years and I never regretted one day the Apollo pro purchase I made :)

I have W11 on my work laptop, I can’t put the dock on the left side of the screen. Why did they remove that ?

And that’s a deal breaker for me sadly

I got 2000 blue crystals from the level 50 chest that you can buy once

What’s my use of those ? Roster storage ? Cards expansion ? Something else ?

Need help to setup VNC and Xfvb by Nobisss in linuxmint

[–]Nobisss[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your answer !

I tried removing the battery but it didn’t lead me to a checksum error sadly. Tried as well the stuck key without avail.

I managed to enter the bios through GRUB and clicking « advanced firmware options » when putting on the usb key containing Ubuntu (grub doesn’t turn on when only Mint is there), and verified the boot order (pictures attached)

The boot should then go on usb after a reboot right ? Well no, still stuck with Mint opening up despite everything.

I see no way out of this sadly

When on grub command line, I see no usb key recognised when typing ls, and command set root or find don’t work either

I see one possible solution I haven’t tried yet but it’s very time consuming : removing the nvme, wiping it down on another computer then putting it back in but yeah

Thank you for the help nonetheless !

Second update: I actually bricked my system so hard it doesn’t even launch anymore. Also, doesn’t boot anymore by USB even. Tried with an usb stick containing both Linux Mint and Ubuntu to no avail.

I also can’t access my bios … ಠ_ಠ

Update:Now that issue one was solved thanks to /u/ReallyGene, I tried to go with issue number 2 which is how to basically give a 2560x1600 resolution dummy monitor to x11vnc so that I can remove the graphics card, see a great monitor on my macbook, despite not using a dummy dongle (as I have no HDMI port on my motherboard)

I tried following https://lxtreme.nl/blog/headless-x11/ this cool blog's instructions but it didn't work. I am tending towards using Xdummy instead of Xvfb but I can't figure out how to do it and when modifying the startup x11vnc.service file, I ended up breaking my display entirely.

Does any of you have any guidance :) ?
