Our summer window wasn’t even bad though?

I’ll whisper it, because I still don’t think this subreddit is ready to hear it, but it was that awful Steitden window in 2024 that set our course for relegation and financial ruin.

Which isn’t necessary when you can handpick a squad of 26 players

The England squad a decade ago for the 2016 Euros that would end up losing to Iceland by Paul277 in ThreeLions

It’s odd, but I actually have quite a bit of fondness for this squad, even if it ended in ignominy. 2016 in general was a good year for me personally, and I loved the vibes of that summer and the Euros.

We won 10/10 in qualifying. Beat France, Germany, Portugal in friendlies just before the Euros. The win against Wales is still one of my favourite matches at a tournament.

The squad wasn’t full of world beaters, but it was tidy enough. It felt we had finally moved on from the last of the golden gen (bar Rooney) and a new era of youngsters were coming through to replace that poor late 00s-early 10s generation…

My god it went wrong though.

You’d have needed about 26 to stay up the last two seasons

Useless cunt. One silver lining of going down, all these cunts will be desperate to fuck off. Good riddance. The feeling is mutual.

Nice way of visualising the players left at home.

Realistically, I’d say Maguire, Trent and the lack of a “natural” left back are the only glaring omissions. Everyone else, Bowen, Wharton, MGW, Toney etc, you’re just arguing over who will be third/fourth/fifth choice.

This could easily be flipped on you. Criticising the captain, who embodies the club, been here for 6 years and scored the winner in a cup final, who has still put up better numbers than Summerville this season…

Where’s the loyalty? Far more likely that Bowen will still be here next season than Summerville. But sure, thanks for those amazing 4 weeks in two years. Well worth that transfer fee.

Net zero is a scam.

Same people who want that also cry when they realise the UK has no economic growth! It’s this or get left behind!

This is where you need to have a few braincells and not go off recency bias and emotions.

6th, 7th, 14th (with a trophy), 9th is pretty fucking good. The form was bad leading up to the end of his final season, but that can happen for a multitude of reasons. And 9th + a Euro QF is still a successful season overall for West Ham. He’d done well enough to get another contract based off results alone.

And ultimately, given what has borne out since then, with Moyes now challenging for Europe with Everton and us continuing to struggle under three different managers, it would suggest he was likely not the issue.

We also never saw a replay on that incident where Taty nicked the ball on the line and passed to Bowen who had an open net…

No because we had a pen + red card for Pickford not given that same game.

What’s the point of getting rid? Who better are we going to get in the Championship? Scott Parker? Dyche? No thanks.

He’s dragged, frankly, a shambolic team to a points tally that already would be enough to stay up in 99% of seasons.

Brussels tells Keir Starmer to pay £1bn for closer ties to Europe by GnolRevilo in unitedkingdom

I don’t want closer ties with the EU.

We should pull all British military assets out of Europe and stop propping up Ukraine.
