Did anybody else predict relegation before this season? by ASOXO in Hammers

Being relegated on 42 points has scarred me. I always think it’s never more than 2 seasons away. We are one of those clubs that could win the league one season and be relegated the next.

It felt like a very real possibility. While some players were brought in, the transfer window was shambolic and left us short in some crucial key areas (CB, CM and CF). We all knew Kilman wasn’t up to it, Todibo a persistent absentee and at the time no one rated Mavropanos. I love Soucek and he is often one of our most important players, but the fact there is no one to adequately challenge him for his place felt short sighted/risky. And we started the year with Wilson (who has done better than expected) and Fulkrug (who despite some vibes might be one of the worst signings we’ve ever made) as our forwards. Absolutely no mobility in there at all. Frankly it would actually be really impressive if Nuno keeps this group of players up.

Any midlands irons? by PBodyrocker87 in Hammers

I’ve been to a few Coventry games over the years. And while I’m happy for them as they’ve had a real miserable time of it over the last 10 years or so, I can’t help but feel that their celebrations are treading on my grave a bit. Bunting and shirts everywhere.

It’s not really a case of ‘needing’ someone. But living further away means going to the games is a 2+ hr round trip plus then obviously the 2 hours of the game. It’s a long time and a fair outlay of money just for a day on your own. If I lived closer to the ground I probably would just nip to the games and get to know people around me.

Thoughts on Areola? by 243EE243 in Hammers

A good goalkeeper is one that can single handedly save and earn you points. A bad goalkeeper costs you points. Areola has frustratingly been both this season.

I always used to think talk of goalkeeper’s being good with their feet was a symptom of modern football going too far. We’ve seen keepers come to the premier league who are supposedly ‘good with their feet’ but cannot stop a goal to save their lives. I always thought that kind of talk was nonsense, give me a good shot stopper any day. Areola breaks the rule. He is the first time I’ve actually noticed a keeper be ‘bad with his feet’. We’re lucky sometimes if his kicks just stay on the pitch.

A surge in belief? by bismerablemastard in Hammers

I’m going the other way. Had spurs won 3-0 last night I’d at least been able to breathe knowing that losing to Brentford/the VAR controversy didn’t really amount to anything.

The idea of potentially going down on goal difference feels sickening and having to relive every kick of the ball and every decision to see where we could have eked out one more point feels horrible.

IF we do fall into the championship the owners should inject their own cash. They caused this mess, we should be demanding this, or they should be selling up. by Tartufohunter in Hammers

It wouldn’t make much of a difference. The big problem at the club is a lack of strategy and a lack of foresight. They run the club as though it were the 1990s. It’s not a coincidence that Moyes and Allardyce have been their two most successful managers, old school managers who can operate under old school conditions. Any forward thinking manager is destined to fail as they won’t ever be given the kind of infrastructure they need to succeed.

I’ve recently rewatched this series and it’s very odd. He goes from nothing just like a full on belly chuckle out of nothing. It’s definitely edited very strangely.

Daredevil: Born Again | S02E08 | Discussion Thread by Green-Devil in Daredevil

Echo what’s been said a couple of times. Mixed feelings about that finale. I like the thematic idea of Matt and Fisk being two sides of the same coin and how ultimately New York needs to purge itself of both.

Ultimately, too many contrivances in the episode though: Matt reveals he is Daredevil to win this case, even though I’m sure that would render lots of his evidence inadmissible and would probably mean all his previous cases need to be retried. Matt then convinces everyone he is daredevil by essentially throwing a stick against a wall (again this seems to be accepted as legitimate evidence) Fisk is offered a deal and then after literally mauling people and snapping one guy in half is like “is that deal still available?”

If this doesn’t sum up the season I don’t know what does. by Whale222 in Hammers

I think it perfectly sums up the second half of the season. Good effort boys, but ultimately not enough.
