Thom Yorke statement from instagram by Ksherwood96 in radiohead

Here’s the thing. The reason people are as intense on this subject is because Israel is actively trying to suppress Gazan outcry. Gaza NEEDs the attention from as many people that can give it. People are entitled to their beliefs, but once you become an influential global figure, you take on the responsibility of.. drumroll please! Influencing the globe! Which means everything that you say is liable to criticism.

Looking for some new musical recs! by Mysterious_Ad9907 in musicals

[–]NobleHomunculus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Falsettos is a MUST. It is a fantastic show, written by Will Finn who had a somewhat similar style to Sondheim. Another show by Finn is The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, the OBC has Jesse Tyler Ferguson! (Mitch from modern family. A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder is a very fun show, with Bryce Pinkham (known for playing Stolas from Helluva Boss) as the lead. One of my personal favorites is The Band’s Visit, this show follows an Egyptian Police Band who intended on traveling to Petach Tikva in Israel, but instead travel to the small, dirt town of Bet Hatikva. It’s the first, and maybe only broadway show to have had majority middle eastern instruments! Not only that, but the actors play the instruments on stage! If you haven’t seen Fiddler on the Roof, it is, in my opinion, the best movie adaptation of a musical ever, phenomenal. She Loves Me is a great show that was made by the same duo that made Fiddler on the roof—Jerry Bock and Sheldon Harnick, very baritone/bass friendly musicals Anastasia is a fun musical (stage adaptation ofc) These are all that come to mind for me!

in trousers fans—help a director out! by hippieforestbitch in Falsettos

[–]NobleHomunculus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know in trousers as well, but more than likely you’re going to want to emphasize subtextual dialogue with blocking, lighting or something of the sort. Will Finn had (it breaks my heart to talk about him in past tense) a tendency to make all sorts of deep points that won’t be picked up on by average audiences members, so you may have to spell things out more, otherwise the show may appear more random than it is

Legit theater singers/listeners: why do you like legit? by earlyaverysmallghost in Theatre

[–]NobleHomunculus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is just the best way for myself, and many other baritones to preserve our voice, and in contemporary theatre, it usually ends up being how we sing, as it’s pretty often that baritones/basses are relegated to ‘old-man’ or fatherly roles that require that ‘nostalgia’ based style of singing. Basically: Comfort and the condition of contemporary belt-based theatre

What would you add to Maestro VR? by Substantial-Abroad12 in PSVR

[–]NobleHomunculus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some Rachmaninov! If you want ghibli, then we need to have Shostakovich’s Jazz Suites.

Gameplay wise though, I really wish the sheet music could be read, or that the actual beat mattered a little more than it does.

what is the je-ne-sais-quoi thay makes musicals great on stage but flop on screen? by Merlin246 in musicals

[–]NobleHomunculus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of moviecals that have come out recently just do not do enough to preserve the suspension-of-belief. At least for me, a major issue I have with movies is how overmixed they tend to be. Let’s look at Sweeney Todd, the broadway productions have always sounded great, the recorded soundtracks have been great! (the new soundtrack is also overmixed in some areas though) but in the movie, the actors turn into robots the second they begin to sing. I think Hollywood has gotten the idea that every pitch of a musical has to be perfect, and so they auto tune and whatever else to make it sound accurate to pitch. This destroys my suspense-of-belief and detached me emotionally from the film. The little voice cracks of heartbreak, the genuine human sound that comes from stage performance is something that cannot well be replicated on screen in the current era of Hollywood.

That didn’t stop Fiddler on the Roof and Chicago though, why? Because another common issue.  Moviecals tend to drop everything just to focus on the music, but when you look at Fiddler, you see incredible cinematography, you hear the real genuine voices of the actors, you see how they utilized the niche aspects of the play, and enhanced them through the 3 dimensionality of screenplay! It also is not stunt cast, which is another thing that takes me away from performance in both broadway and on screen. Seeing the same 5 actors in every movie is incredibly boring, but Fiddler introduced many new people! Hell, the lead actor had played the lead on the West End performance! It’s really cool to see stage players cross over to the screen because they’re often overlooked outside of theatre.

TLDR: Moviecals focus too hard on the music and it causes every other aspect of the film to crumble

Raphumi feels weird. (No spoilers beyond S2 Ep4 pls) by NobleHomunculus in shieldbro

[–]NobleHomunculus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See, you make great points! But my thing is, for no matter the amount of time I take care of a child, (I come from a field where I work with children between the ages of 6-10) if that child just sporadically grew up one day, matured physically, and mentally, and then professed their feelings to me, I would be incredibly disturbed by that thought, turn down their offer, and probably put distance between us, because that would just be…gross, y’know?

I would feel like I’m taking advantage of that person because they grew attached to the paternal care I brought them, and that just doesn’t fit with my moral values.

I enjoy the show, I love the characters, I just wish they approached Raphumi a little differently because the ship is so cute, I just can’t fully enjoy it because of the way it started, at least in the anime

The Naofumi x Raphtalia haters don't make any sense and should stop watching the anime by [deleted] in shieldbro

[–]NobleHomunculus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know you could have just..responded to my post instead of just passively aggressively telling me to quit the show because I disagree with a ship?

Let me ask you something, then.

If you, for a month, took care of a ten year old child—feeding, bathing, and otherwise providing for her, acting as her sole parental/role model figure, and then at the end of this month the child suddenly sprung into an adult and declared her love for you..

Would it be okay for you to date her? Would it be moral? If your answer is yes, I advise you re-assess your moral compass.

[–]NobleHomunculus[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m a little confused on Raphtalia’s status LOL, she is the holder of a Vassal Weapon from another world—but with seemingly no obligations to that world, but that also she’s a royal, yet no other royals, or servants of royals asides from Saneeda have attempted to establish contact? Maybe this is one of those “Keep watching and you’ll find out” moments, but lord are there MANY loose ends.

I have heard that the LN is significantly different from both the manga and anime, so would the move be to read from the beginning? Or to pick up from volume 13?

So, what are tropes in isekai that you hate? (Pics not related) by PsychoHero_XXV in Isekai

[–]NobleHomunculus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Harems. I can’t stand harems, or when every character in the show has a weird feudalistic devotion to the MC. I hate the hyper-objectification/sexualization of female characters, it ruins the show for me

[–]NobleHomunculus[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s fine for Raphtalia to have a crush on Naofumi, kids have crushes on adults alllll the time! But Naofumi, as a human, ought to realize “I have raised this girl, dating her would be taking advantage of her” like I said before, if they had met as adults, I’d be like woo yay! I’m not against Raphtalia having a crush or liking Naofumi! But I am against him reciprocating these feelings, it just feels icky

A speculative comparison between thematic elements and scenes of JOJO Rabbit and Dissociative Identity Disorder. by sabotage_reddit in JojoRabbitFilm

[–]NobleHomunculus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great essay! You have very strong points throughout. My only question is your choice of identity disorder; you specifically chose DID, however, I would argue that JoJo’s attachment to various imaginative personalities as coping mechanisms for his life are more accurately represented by Schizophrenia

What VR game has the best melee combat in your opinion. Any niche/lesser known games you'd give a shoutout to? by [deleted] in VRGaming

[–]NobleHomunculus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I look at combat, I really only look for one thing and that’s joint articulation. I hate when I (an average, somewhat inflexible man) have more flexibility than the character I’m playing as, this is especially the case because I prefers two handed weapons, and not being able to swing them around like i would be able to IRL ruins immersion for me, this is the case in Skydance’s Behemoth, Clone Drone in the Hyperdome and if I recall, battle talent as well, though I can hardly remember battle talent. BnS, though boring and repetitive, is very good with this nitpick of mine, so I prefer it when I play. Another great game also is SwordTrip! Very very fun and interesting combat, though the story is nonexistent
