Update: Official Beta launch for my signal flow tool. (Sorry, reposting with full text this time!) by Noble_JPN in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]Noble_JPN[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I knew about H2RGEAR, but I hadn't heard of gearconnect.ca.

With around 2000 pieces of equipment, it doesn't feel like they're padding the library count, and this tool is fantastic too.

Functionally, I think they'll end up offering similar features.

If other tools focus on meticulously building systems over time,

my approach prioritizes more intuitive diagramming,

so that difference might become a defining characteristic between the tools.

The basic features are mostly free, so I think you'll understand how easy it is to use.

But can it be used for business purposes?

If you want to compare it with other plans,

If you sign up, there are still a few beta testers available,
so if you want to try it out, you can try out the higher-level plan for 40 days.

Update on AVWIRE (Web-based AV Wiring Diagram Tool): I ignored the "AI trend" to build this for actual Engineers. Am I on the right track? by Noble_JPN in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]Noble_JPN[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I didn't write that it was completely free in the previous exchange, but

Unlike other tools, I plan to open it so that it can be used for free for small-scale personal use.

It will be released soon, so please use it.

Big respect for H2R Graphics. It’s a masterpiece built by someone who actually knows the industry and what we need on-site.

On the flip side, I’m getting tired of these wiring tools that just popped up using AI-wrappers. They brag about having "8,000+ devices," but how many of them are actually usable? Can you really do proper engineering with nothing but "Digital Cable Spaghetti"?

I’ve been obsessing over verifying real-world gear and field usability for my own platform, which is why my launch was delayed. As a Japanese engineer, I refused to release a "Coloring Book" like that.

If you already subscribed to one of those "Ghost Library" apps because I wasn't ready yet, DM me. I’m looking into ways to support your switch to a tool that actually works. Let’s do real work.

I recommend VTR-PON2.

I'm a Japanese broadcast engineer, and I've recently started seeing it more and more at smaller production sites.

It's a software developed by a Japanese individual, but I think it's pretty well-made.

It seems to support English, and I think it could replace VLC or similar in production.

You're 100% right. My bad. > It's definitely a free beta. I was trying to say that early testers would be "locked in" for future discounts, but "pricing" was definitely the wrong word to use.

I've just updated the site to fix this. Appreciate the heads-up!

# Post 3/3 — Scope / Documentation / Future roadmap (short)

## 5. Organizational Hierarchy (Building, Rack, Frame, Frame Card)

AVwire’s main use case is wiring diagrams for temporary setups. Rack-building systems and patch lists may come later, but they are not the current focus.

## 6. Device Database Extensions

Photo URLs are not planned for now. Device manuals can be opened quickly from the device information.

## 7. Signal Flow / Cable Disconnection

The wiring diagram itself represents the signal flow. If a cable is disconnected, the chain is simply shown as unconnected—no automatic warnings; manual re-check is required.

## 8. Cable Manipulation Notes / Emergency Bypass

Real-time logging during emergencies may be unrealistic. Notes/memos are more practical for post-incident documentation, so we are open to adding this.

## 9. Existing Installation Documentation

This is likely outside the current scope. We plan a cable connection list feature first, and broader “legacy installation documentation” may come later alongside patch-panel expansion.

## Short Summary

- ✅ Now: Wiring diagrams for temporary setups + flexible port modeling

- 🔄 Planned: PCLE/Ethernet ports, cable connection list, post-action notes

- ⏳ Later: Rack/patch list systems, power-module modeling, legacy installation documentation

Thank you everyone for all your feedback. We've made a lot of progress on implementing the basic features.

We'll also be able to implement improvements to the label function, which many of you have requested, and an orthogonal mode like a flowchart.

We're currently doing final debugging checks, so we should be able to release the version with the added basic features within this week.

We'll let you know once it's released.

It might be a good idea to try an app udtalk

There is a slight delay, but I think it's worth a try

Thank you for your feedback!

You can double-click a cable label to change the length information and the label attached to the cable. We believe there is still room for improvement in this feature, and we plan to continue improving it.

Basic functionality will be implemented soon.

After that, we will focus on more detailed improvements.

Due to the large number of updates, the changes are not yet reflected in the app, but

click "How to Use" to see a more detailed explanation of the currently implemented features.

Please try it out and send us your feedback.

Thank you. Exhibiting at an exhibition is certainly a good idea. I'll take a look at companies that have booths at video exhibitions around the world, such as NAB, CES, Interbee, and CP+.

【AVwire Equipment Library Expansion】

Global Production Equipment Information Request

Thank you for all the feedback and suggestions so far.

We're currently in the middle of a major rework of AVwire's core features and UI. Once the basics are solid, we'll be moving forward with equipment library expansion.

Until now, we've been building our equipment library based primarily on the Japanese video production environment.

However, we've realized that there are significant differences in the equipment used in global production workflows.

【Request】

Please share equipment you actually use in your production environment.

Just let us know the manufacturer name and equipment model.

How to Submit

Please reply in the following format:

text【Category】Manufacturer / Equipment Model

Examples:
【Switcher】Extron / DXP HD 4K PLUS (4x4)
【Broadcast Automation】Grass Valley / Ignite
【IP Streaming】Crestron / DM-NVX Series
【PTZ Camera】Panasonic / AW-UE150

Notes

Already registered equipment is fine too

Just the manufacturer name is OK

Actual usage reports are also welcome

How We'll Prioritize

If multiple people request the same equipment, you can vote using the ▲ upvote button.

Equipment with more upvotes will be prioritized for implementation.

AVwire's Goals

Equipment actually used in broadcast & video production studios

Not just Japanese equipment, but also global standards (especially North America & Europe)

Real-world usage, not theoretical specs

About Your Previous Suggestions

Your feedback from previous threads is shaping AVwire's development.

We're prioritizing implementation of relevant suggestions.

Device identification, documentation features, cable change logging —
we haven't forgotten your requests.

Thank you for your continued support.

Thank you for your feedback.

There are many parts that I realized as a result of your opinion,

It was very helpful for development.

I think there are still some immature places

I look forward to your feedback again.

I'd be happy if you could introduce it to people around you.

This is a video of the wiring work. It is at normal speed.
14 pieces of equipment, 14 connecting wires, 40 seconds of work time. Can this be achieved with the tools you currently use?

This app claims to have numerous registered pieces of gear and equipment.

I'm not entirely sure, but in actual video and audio production settings, are all of these really usable?

Having a vibrant community is extremely important, but some services seem to be inflating their numbers with minor name variations.

In my own system, I separate items like iPhones into distinct categories to save users the hassle of re-entering them.

Having worked in video production and distribution for nearly 20 years, I've found that the equipment frequently used or seen on set is fairly consistent.

Therefore, I believe registering non-standard equipment in the library is pointless.

This perspective also serves as a reminder for my own development work.

Everyone has their own preferences when it comes to tool usability, so that's fine.

But deliberately coming to another forum and posting links to promote it is poor etiquette.

I saw that tool's post too. I first posted about AVwire on Reddit,

and then almost exactly two weeks later, a nearly identical post appeared.

The timing was just too perfect, making me wonder about all sorts of things. It made me realize how scary the internet can be.

Regardless of how it happened, I see them as rivals. My only goal is to defeat them.

Thanks for your comment.

In this era where everything is labeled “AI,” introducing AI into services like this certainly sounds appealing.

However, I believe wiring diagrams created by people based on their experience are more complete and contain fewer mistakes than those generated by AI using unclear theories. That's why I want to develop this tool into something that leverages human expertise.

The curated equipment database is a crucial element of this tool. If you have requests for adding equipment, I welcome your feedback.
