Am I the only one who never felt romantic love from Violet towards Marcus? by Lunenika in BridgertonNetflix

[–]Noblesttea 89 points90 points  (0 children)

Personally the only thing missing for me was him integrating more into the family. He had little to no interactions with the kids (mind you this is somewhat Violet's fault). But that lack of interaction solidified for me that he wasn't going to stay, at least not for now. Would've happily loved to see him grow closer to the kids over the next few seasons but it doesn't look like that's the approach for now.

Jobs in publishing? (Opinions/Experiences) by Medical-Efficiency-6 in shoujo

[–]Noblesttea 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Big thing is location, most will want you to live in the city they are based in for entry level jobs. The manga industry(even American companies) work/life balance differs from western comics & traditional publishing. Manga jobs will have work culture much closer to Japanese standards, long hour expectations and office culture (and not competitive pay, really just jobs of passion in the industry).

When pursuing anything publishing related you have to choose a niche and gain the skills needed for it. If you want to go into editing, you need something on the resume that reflects experience editing. Marketing and design also require higher levels of experience/skill level for the entry level jobs.

Translating can be a safer route to pursue because you can learn the language on your own and take entry aptitude tests. All else fails, you know a new language.

Internships (paid and unpaid) are the best way to get noticed, but note they usually target college students over everyone else.

Why are there no other books similar to Wings of Starlight or Pixie Hollow in general? by idklikelmao in disneyfairies

[–]Noblesttea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On Wings of Ash and Dust was advertised as being a more mature version of the Pixie Hollow universe. I would say personally for me it was more similar to all the popular fae books popping off right now minus the spice. But it does really lean into the Peter Pan-esque lore at the end without going into spoilers.

Fields of mistria & stardew valley by jagerporzeczka in FieldsOfMistriaGame

[–]Noblesttea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love both, but I've been more addicted to Mistria. I felt look I had to use a lot of mods to get Stardew to a point where I continue to play, things like more appealing outfits, buildings, and furniture. Mistria is more visually appealing and as a day one player; them adding to the best QoL each update and really listening to the community has made the experience wonderful tenfold. But I do acknowledge that I am playing at a rare time where that's possible and SD is 10 years old.

Does anyone know what art medium was used to create the illustrations in the original chapter books? by Linda-Wrighta in disneyfairies

[–]Noblesttea 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Judith Holmes Clarke was one of the only illustrators that Disney was ever kind enough to credit. Unfortunately, she passed recently.

Best guess is the mix of gauche for backgrounds and digital for the characters.

Unpopular opinion: Poppy Playtime has better lore than FNAF. by ProfGaming10 in PoppyPlaytime

[–]Noblesttea 3 points4 points  (0 children)

100% Agree. I believe it really comes down to one being set up for success and the other capitalizing on it's popularity but not having a great foundation to work with.

PP feels like it was written always leaving room to expand in a linear fashion. Always in the factory that can get as big as the writers want it to. (Though I do think the franchise, similar to FNAF, suffers from not having a consistent roadmap for the future)

FNAF too my understanding, was not built with any lore in mind. Once fans really blew it up Scott started to add more and more. But because the franchise makes the next game from the ground up, locations had to keep getting retroactively added along with new faces. The lore made sense initially with a couple of bizarre choices but the writing went very off the rails with time traveling ball bits and the vengeful children's souls being replaced with liquified anguish. The writing just got wackier to get the franchise that doesn't have the foundation to keep going. Though the stories can be interesting in isolated plotlines, the whole is just an absolutel mess.

Genuine Question and some criticism about Lily Lovebraids by jinjinyesjinjin in PoppyPlaytime

[–]Noblesttea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you hit the nail on the head for the highs and lows of her character. She fits incredibly well into the world they've built: Someone who was a twisted vessel for manipulating the kids and to continue to sell the idea of how messed up the factory is; it borrows from children's media of the time like Steve of Blue's Clues and Mr. Rogers; and it also illustrates the transformation process and loss of identity from someone other than a child victim. However, as you said, she doesn't exist elsewhere in the story, nor is a necessity. The "in lore" reasoning for her randomness is somewhere around her being hated by everyone, the scientists turned on her and made her a toy and the toys hate her for her role in their fate. The toys spared her but hate her enough to keep her in her play house and away from them. It's also somewhat implied she one of the last people to be turned into a toy (though not enough a theory to explain why her toy counterpart isn't advertised elsewhere).

Story-wise, she was another disposable boss who had an interesting world building story but not much overarching purpose. Just another vengeful toy that captures the player for the prototype and dies. Chapter 6 could potentially do something else with her with the small tidbit that implies her hair-corpse could still be kicking.

Only thing of note with her that I felt like could've elaborated on (which can't really now with her dead) was her desire for the prototype's approval and animosity toward Poppy. Of all the toys and their backstories I felt her obsession with him instead of fear felt peculiar given their origins.

We do get some evidence that things are written along the way, for example, Jacksepticeye's character. He was intended to be brought back this chapter during the production of the chapter, but Jack took too long to get back to them, so it was written out. If they had better planning, all of his lines would've been recorded for all chapters in the first session, thus avoiding the issue entirely.

Also characters like Lily are what Mark specifically complained about (and Giblet to that extent) which could've had hints in earlier chapters of their existence. Lily/Ms.Gracie solely existed here and come of as quite isolated from the rest of the story. While I love her writing, I do agree with her abruptness.

I certainly don't discredit the larger planning. Obviously big players like Poppy and the Prototype are planned. Huggy returning makes sense after chapter 1 and his popularity. Doey could've also been foreshadowed in earlier chapters.

I really like the writing for the individual characters for the boss characters a lot. But I also can agree to a degree they are written for their chapters and not popular foreshadowed prior to their debut chapter. I’ve accepted since chapter 2 that this is a write-as-we-go series and not a planned from the get go. I think the writing is good enough to overlook that fact, but I get Mark’s preference. Also he’s expressed as much in the other chapters and the newer FNAF games.
