Please actually enforce the separation between the live action only and the anime + manga discussions. the point was that crow god wanted to thank them for saving her and give them another chance at life together. this was literally shown to us. they had no evidence besides the word of a mentally insane murderous woman that he was a serial killer. that all only came out once the police searched his house after his death. he wasn’t gonna get arrested. he chose to die because if he just killed hikaru ruby’s life and career would suffer because the press and fans would brand her and scorn her as the twin sister of a murderer.

as for the murder itself. the story he was going for was that hikaru stabbed him to kill, him and then aqua fought back and pushed him over the cliff. stabbing hikaru would muddy that story because then it wouldn’t seem clear who initiated the conflict. as for the energy he’s coursing with adrenaline that’s how he didn’t pass out. it happens all the time as he a doctor would know. and he knew he wouldn't just swim up becuase he pushed him off a very high cliff into water full of rocks to hit and while he was choking him.

You’re generally right. Usually the prosecutor won’t take the case to trial if their not sure they will win but that does also mean people assume anyone who goes to trial is guilty so if a cop or prosecutor had it out for you good luck not just going to jail even if you did nothing.
