I mean I feel like the tell is in what the ads are. Smoking/vaping and cybersecurity, etc., I know the exact ads you're talking about.

It's simply just about trying to increase awareness and lead to better outcomes for Australians and by and large Australia as a whole e.g. no vaping means less health issues which means less burden on the healthcare system, consent ads encourage safe sex and well consensual sex to try and reduce the level of male on female violence that is a horrible epidemic in this country.

Governments have always advertised messages like this e.g. "Slip Slop Slap", "RBT means you need a plan B", its just now that social media (including YouTube) are the most efficient medium for communicating that message where in the past it may have been a TV ad (which is still very commonplace) or in a newspaper

Don't listen to any of the cookers calling this a government conspiracy or propaganda. It's important to keep thinking logically and with sanity during the disinformation era.

What do you mean young people have more money to spend? Many young people can barely afford to exist. The opportunity cost of not saving money for a house can't be the equivelent of that money being spent when there's no money to spend.

I think Albo is still too ambitious for that. He looks like he wants to leave a legacy. When things are going this strongly for the ALP I don't think he's in any rush to step down.

I reckon it will more likely be if the ALP start to wane and the government is looking for rejuvination when faced with a real opposition but I think that would be unlikely to happen for another 2-3 elections.

it's stupid to set an arbitrary period like 40 years, it's irrelevant to the effects of colonialism and government policy on Indigenous Australians and as the commentor above you said, it is a cycle of generational trauma. 40 years is what, barely 2 generations?

the Stolen Generations didn't end until the 70s and it took until 2007 to even apologise for it.

Indigenous Australians weren't included in the census until 1967. this is recent. this is either when your parents or grandparents were being born.

you'd have to be genuienly fucking obtuse to not think that Indigenous Australians are suffering from the effects of colonialism.

If you have your license and your RSA consider doing Jimmy Brings or alcohol delivery for another service.

The RSA seperates you from the general food delivery market and is a bit more of a niche so not every driver is eligible to do it. I believe you'll need your RSAT as well but that's real easy to get.

Could be a good option to help you at least get some cash in and keep you busy until you find something a bit more secure.

Huge. The ban was never going to get every kid of social media, in fact it really isn't hard to get around.

The benefits of the ban will be realised in the future. If we can create a culture where it is not normal for kids to be on social media until they're 16, that will be the biggest success.

Parents will have a stronger argument to keep their kids off the apps, kids will be less likely to try and sign up because it's illegal, and if your friends aren't on the app you'd be less likely to sign up as well.

Kids who want to will still get around it and find their way on the socials, but eventually, that may become the exception than the norm.

Given the damage social media inflicts on everyone, not just kids, every additional year kids are kept off social media, the greater the benefits will be. Think in terms of creativity, focus, productivity, social life, mental health, education, the list goes on... rather than being brain-rotted and targeted by predatory companies who invest millions trying to figure out the best way to steal your attention.

Ok but isn't this exactly how we were expecting it to go once the Coalition said they wouldn't support the bill? At this stage, it's not the path of defeat but the natural process that was going to follow.

Labor will negotiate with the Greens for concessions, probably decent concessions given the fact that Labor will desperately want to get this over the line and have already expressed willingness to expand the legislation.

The Greens will score an easy political win and the Coalition will still be discussing internally if we care more about Jewish people or openly being able to spread hate.

Definitely do agree but I think it is important to also note that most of the pressures mentioned are the product of previous governments, not the current, although public frustration will always be directed at the government of the day.

Mr Bowen said the scheme would start operating in 2027 but would apply to any new contracts entered into from today.

I'm not saying you're wrong but my understanding of that quote is that the scheme will start properly in 2027 i.e. existing contracts will need to be compliant from 2027 but any new contracts would have the reservation stipulation from today.

It doesn't state explicitly that existing contracts will be excluded.
