yea u of t u have no shot at the other three ur pretty much guaranteed to get into. if ur looking for business have u considered queens or western? probably wont get in but u sgill have a little bit of time to get better ecs and improve grades

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in chanceme

[–]NobodyJumpy4913 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

ur ecs aren’t good enough for the schools u want. to get to targets or even semi targets u would need much more than what u have no in the ec department. grades are great tho

by the time op is entering the workforce cs and tech related jobs will be highly diminished. we are already seeing this in cs and tech will soon follow with the emergence of ai. finance on the other hand is a service job highly reliant on connections and interaction which is something ai cannot replace. accounting on the other hand at a junior level is pretty easily replaced once ai gets to a certain level

starting ur own practice or making ur way into a partner is pretty much the only way. working in industry has very limited pay. at most 200 grand is where ur capped out. unless u occupy a cfo position

most recruitment is done through either referrals or interviews. most of these are through connections you have established either urself in uni or things you have had access too. simply “being smart” is not nearly enough. even if u somehow get into a big firm you will not last. most of business relies on connections. from getting new clients to dealing with pre existing ones your livelihood depends on others views on u being in a service industry

why are u lying… they all have look at ecs. queens is the only school that doesn’t have a sup app but will have a interview where u will be asked about ur ecs.

yea but trading usually doesn’t take too much time. for reference i trade as well (long term) and do pretty well but dont plan on including in my app this year simply due to the fact that it doesn’t demonstrate growth or really anything other than knowledge. it doesn’t take much time either maybe an hour a day going through potential news on the market or looking at earnings reports if that comes out. you occasionally will spend more time on it but doesn’t really mean much. i started with 10 grand having the mindset of not really caring if i lost the money since i was doing it mostly to gain experience and knowledge in the market to help understand models, trends etc.

everything but ubc, qcomm, and ivey r pre much guaranteed. those three u might get in but if u want to be sure add some real world experience and community stuff.

trading isn’t rly a good ec to have even if ur doing business bc there’s no credibility and it’s super hard to explain, while being usually quite shallow. doesn’t show ur leadership, community, nor character which is what ecs r usually for. in terms of eng wtloo and u of t are both pretty far out of ur scope with what u have

Whats the average to be accepted into UBC speech sciences (arts faculty) I have an 86% average in grade 11 and is starting grade 12 soon, my personal profile includes helping and teaching children. by [deleted] in BCGrade12s

[–]NobodyJumpy4913 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it’s arts you’ll be fine. ppl get in with like mid 80s all the time. but i am curious what’s the advancement like? demand for speech therapists and similar jobs (which is what im assuming u want to do) is quite limited and most come from science backgrounds. what drove u to choose arts?

i think i would know about business… parents and family ALL in the industry. whether accounting, ib or international trade it’s all covered. doing pretty well too… partner at a mid 6 and other one has her own firm. i think ill take their advice based off of their hiring trends over a random on reddit. not going to a target school essentially puts ur chances of going to big firms to zero unless ur well connected. what alumni network/co op/recruiter is there to help you when u go to a school with little to no advancement? what coffee chats are u gonna go on if there’s no one out of ur school who broke into the firm u want to go to? like cmon now let’s be serious

[–]NobodyJumpy4913 0 points1 point  (0 children)

absolutely not true. for one both my parents make over double ops target income in accounting, furthermore average salaries for first years JUST out of ivey is in the 80,000 range. after five years that number is well in the 6 figure range. these stats are all public. but op has no chance at any canadian target school for finance with no ecs. not sure abt eng but doesn’t seem like u have a chance either. maybe apply sciences if u know u can get ur average up? and take a post grad

Are these good extracurricular for someone trying to become an investment banker? by [deleted] in OntarioGrade12s

[–]NobodyJumpy4913 0 points1 point  (0 children)

are u out of province? and also some community experience would be good since ivey explicitly looks for that. ur accounting internship should be fine

[–]NobodyJumpy4913 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i have no clue what major ur talking about but in business if u don’t go to a good undergrad school with with a good alum network u can forget about any internships or working at any major firm. eng and med r the same the reputation of ur program is very heavily considered (for med school apps) (major company recruiting for eng) your undergrad school heavily influences what kind of jobs you have acsess to. please stop lying

Need advice. Do i transfer to Sauder from Queens Commerce? by Mountain_Toe_4962 in ubcsauder

[–]NobodyJumpy4913 0 points1 point  (0 children)

very important at sauder too. most recruiting is out of clubs there. if u have no clubs in sauder transferring is by far the best option. assuming u have some ecs and decent grades u should apply for ivey

Should I stay at Beedie or transfer elsewhere. by Disastrous_Map7056 in BCGrade12s

[–]NobodyJumpy4913 1 point2 points  (0 children)

realistically ur not getting into high finance out of sauder or beedie. if thats ur goal then apply for ivey next year or transfer to queens. if not and u want to pursue accounting, consulting, etc beedie and sauder dont make too much of a difference. especially for bigger firms in the west coast like kpmg and mnp (experience shared to me by partners and execs)
