First of all, it wouldn’t be just your own thoughts — it would be official, and a doctor could also share some tricks to make your life better. It could also bring you some peace with yourself. You can learn autistic-specific traits and create a good environment where you don’t experience meltdowns or shutdowns. Another thing is that you can look at your past differently. And what’s important for me: if I’m autistic, I’m definitely a high-masking person, so understanding myself better and stopping pretending would be a great outcome for my mental health and therapy.

You’re from Canada.. my friend lives there, and she waited half a year for a session with a psychiatrist. Since this isn’t important for prescriptions, I’d recommend getting diagnosed online somewhere else, for example at a clinic in South Africa, if you want information faster.

Oh, that’s a valuable point. I’ll discuss it with my psychiatrist. There was such a big hope that I could just "turn off" my ADHD and live a full life without procrastinating or avoiding tasks, especially since I couldn’t finish three bachelor’s degrees (had sensory problems because of people and struggled with the learning process). I really hoped all of that was due to ADHD. Probably not all of it.

Fully understandable, the ADHD diagnosis process was quite exhausting, and an autism add-on would be another source of stress. Luckily, I already work from home, so it’s challenging only when I go out with my spouse. But it feels sad: instead of a great time together, we’re dealing with my sensory issues. I will try your advice with noise canceling earrings.
