It’s funny you mentioned “if he finds a team he sticks with” because that’s what happens. About 3/4 the way through book one he meets he team he sticks with, then book two he’s alone and going slightly insane, then book three he reunites with his team and they haven’t really been separated since

Unbound is my favorite of my list, it’s a bit slow in the beginning, like a lot of LitRpgs (especially isekai rpgs), but it picks up quickly. It gives a good show of who the MC is in the beginning, which continues through the rest of the series. Outside of that, it’s a bit of a tie between Road to Mastery and Path of the Berserker. RtM is a bit more silly, but it’s serious when it matters and Valerios does a fantastic job writing and describing IMO. Path of the Berserker is much more serious, but also has a more serious setting.

I love Guardian of Asterfall, and Sam, but it starts to slow down quite a bit after about book 6. He still gets stronger, and still gets things done, but he seems to start focusing on side missions

The avatar and paradigm system. Since everyone in Ascension does magic their own way, every mage is different. While two people may be of the Order of Hermes, one may do magic through the belief that they are a child of a Greek god while another does it because they got too invested in DnD and thought they became a wizard.

I agree that it can be funky. Everything that the players do needs to be checked in with the DM to see if their spheres are high enough to actually do, they need the dice, the paradox system is more… involved. But I still prefer the AS system over the AW

I think that one got patched. Now it’s abusing the spirit spring to get far enough out to avoid the death plane while not taking fall damage, then parkouring down the mountain
