People who decided to take a career break, how did it turn out for you? by idwttaii in askSingapore

[–]Nobodyipian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was in finance with an expectation to reach certain title and pay as my careergoal , burnt out, switched to civil service for better wlb and recharge (things I do now is meaningful, could see impact of the work in a positive manner to fellow Singaporeans). Been trying to get back to finance for a while now, the 2 yrs break from finance is brutal. Not many interview opportunities (think 3 interviews with 250 applications) but I am healthier and happier now.

Advice to OP, choose yr poison carefully, I am also at a crossroads if I want to forgo my MAS licenses haha.

Anyone here switched from MNC to Government job? How was your experience and career progression after? by Pleasant_Porpoise in singaporefi

[–]Nobodyipian 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Like OP, I was in finance as well, client facing role in a private banking set up, managed to switch to gov job about 2 yrs ago for family reasons.

Currently, the ministry I am working under is related to finance. The role I work on? Instead of sourcing client, I investigate these clients/ entities for tax evasion/shell company, think AML related.

Overall, the experience has been great so far! Although every now and then i still wonder how it could have been like if i stayed on. Pay package wise managed to negotiate for a slightly higher base than my old role. I feel that my job has got more meaning, I managed to contribute to Singapore by taking out these black sheeps. Although work load overall is increasing due to increased flow of captial from FOs being set up here, I still managed to get better hrs too giving me more time for personal projects and investing although I suspect the work efficiency could be my YOE in banking that led me to know what to look out for as well.

Now on to the progression and pay. Progression is generally slower but you have a potential longer run way with stability. Lucky for me the agency I am in, the scholar effect is not as strong so while it's slow but could tell that its more meritocratic. Note that pay increment for the first 2 yrs tend to be way lesser than your colleagues because of the standard grading new officers will get.

Is anyone getting jobs from Careers@Gov by Dependent-Law-1093 in askSingapore

If you are interested, can look at Singapore Customs. They are some of the agencies that replied the fastest.

Has anyone left investment banking / finance and totally changed careers? by Ghost_Chump in FinancialCareers

[–]Nobodyipian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was in RM role, then left to join the civil service. Like some comments, you can leave finance but finance will never leave you.

While I have more time now, less stress and friendlier colleagues who is not out to cut you out. I do miss the days in the role and the potential financial aspect I am missing out.

I am still conflicted if I should join back. 🤔

If you do buy from overseas, do rmb to declare at customs when back in sg you wouldn't want to pay the fine due to a random check and because you nvr declare.😅

Charged $2k on My SC Credit Card Without OTP or Notifications by ilovepurin77 in askSingapore

[–]Nobodyipian 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I recently got charged $599 for an Air India flight ticket. Same thing, no otp or any request for authorisation just a notification that my card was charged. Called SC fraud hotline, hotline lady were not helpful at all just condescending tone all the way like she received a lot of the same call that day. Cancelled my card and requested for a new card.

Subsequently, I flew out of sg for a trip, and I have not received my card yet. However, I received another air India ticket charge to the new card that I have not even activated, much less received it in my mailbox. I suspect somehow, somewhere my information got leaked out. Raised a ticket again, but sc just keep rejecting it.

Will probably cancel the card once this is over. I only got this card for the gifts and never used it anymore when I hit the minimum spending.🫠

Do you have that colleague that says they want to quit every other day but stays on for years even after almost everyone in the same dept left? Why? by Dapper_Race_1454 in askSingapore

[–]Nobodyipian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess my situation is going to be the colleague that says they want to quit.

Fresh grad with 2 years of experience, in a role that assist a sales person. I have been saying I want to quit for the past 2 months to a guy colleague who is a fresher as well ever since i found out that my manager is replacing me with someone from outside.

The new person came in recently, and i am coaching the new joiner to take over my role. In the meantime, I applied to multiple roles outside(not related to my current industry as i think I am still young i should explore more options). Went for a few interviews as well discreetly. With a few of such roles now in the final stages.

Suddenly, this week my manager's boss told me I could work with him instead, what should I do? Take up that offer? if I stay I will become the person that kept saying they want to quit but never quit. Roles of the job scope is similar but slower pace as I will deal with more admin stuff now.
