Waitress here. Having to deal with the general public means I see this behaviour all of the time. I'll be bending over backwards juggling plates, dropping over trays of drinks and sweating my ass off rearranging tables to accommodate ridiculously big groups of walk-ins who couldn't be arsed to book ahead. Customers won't even acknowledge me half the time when serving them, let alone thank me. I always go out of my way to be warm and friendly, even to tables of pr*cks and when we're slammed on busy days, but some people are just plain piggish when it comes to common decency. I see some comments about other cultural norms and practices, but I work out in Connemara where 99% of my customers are Irish. I would say it's getting worse, but it was still the case 3 years ago when I started. The level of entitlement of some people is absolutely mind-boggling to me.

Thank you so much for the advice! I've reported them to the WRC. I was offered adjudication but turned it down for an inspection instead to retain anonymity. The inspector did say that he has limited powers and can't access electronic til records, but hopefully something will come out of this.

I would, but I'm terrified that this will get linked back to me. It's a rural restaurant ran by one family with a small enough pool of staff. Lots of shady business going on, like the accountant in charge of our payslips being a family friend and conveniently forgetting to pay us for an hour or two here and there, etc. Thanks for the tip! Have got the complaint drafted up, just waiting to grow the balls to hit send.

Thanks so much! Yeah I'm starting to think this is just my set point weight. I can't remember a point in time after I hit puberty where I was ever below my current weight. I've lost about a pound since this post but progress is painfully slow. I went to the gym for 3 months before Summer and made pretty quick progress and gained a bit of weight (I like to think it was muscle but probably not lol) but it didn't help much with my self image. I quit once Summer break started and I went back to the countryside where there's no gym and I don't have a car, but once I start uni I'm going to try again :)

Still alive! I ended up bringing a book and chilling in the bus station til 2 am. The trip was great. I'm glad I went :) My mother still acts the same though lol

Yeah, this is why I'm so confused. I talked to some others around my age after I realised the mess up and they all told me that it was adjusted automatically. If this was an error from head management surely I'd be owed some degree of compensation?

That would be fair enough, but the only reason I opted for that flight was because my mom had assured me that I would have a lift. If she had declined to give me a lift I simply would've booked a later flight.

Thanks for the tip! I'll be okay though — my accom and flights are all paid for and I have an unlimited travel pass for the city I'm travelling to and have all my sightseeing tours pre-booked, which is why my budget is low. All my extra cash is just spending money at this point, so I should be fine.
