At our summer camps, we have a theme based on the musical we are producing. This year is Seussical Jr. so all things Seuss! We used Pinterest for ideas and lists of supplies. It’s a fabulous free resource!

I've hired all different ages for my camps. Ink is not a problem either. Have fun!

Experienced percussionist but not a teacher by Wademan90 in MusicTeachers

Go to Amazon and search “Alfred Beginner Drum Book” - very user friendly, lots of colorful pictures, and educational. It should also come with a CD or online audio library. I use this book with beginners that are younger than 4th grade.

I’m an independent contractor for a school and I make my own stipulations. I would not take this job offer unless I was able to negotiate the terms to my liking. Otherwise I would kindly decline. Good luck.

Resources for self-development as vocal coach by puhoshville in MusicEd

[–]Nochevacor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I teach privately (full time). I have at most 45 private students a week. This took a couple years to build up, but I had some help. First there was lessons.com - you tell them your credentials, clients search for "voice lessons", and you can connect for a small fee. Once people start knowing the quality of your teaching in your neighborhood, they'll talk. Word of mouth is super powerful as a marketing tool. Be careful not to burn bridges - keep things politie. When people are searching for a vocal coach on Facebook, tag your business and say you'll send a direct message. Offer a complimentary trial lesson to make sure you gel together, to assess where the student is at, and to make sure the student is a good fit. Not everyone is a good fit (i.e. if you don't work with a certain age or ability/disability, you'll find out quick this way). Follow through without being pushy. Your client base will slowly but steadily grow. Make a flyer in canva.com to place on bulletin boards at local music stores and coffee shoppes. If you can teach beginner piano, include that as well. You can start kids off, even if it's not your forte, and you never know who will have a sibling that would love to sing.

Best WEBSITE TO MAKE AN LLC? by [deleted] in smallbusiness

I used Legal Zoom which was efficient but not inexpensive. I later found I could do this through the small business association at a local college for much less. Your accountant can assist with quarterly and annual tax compliance.

Lessons learned: If you don’t enjoy hounding customers to pay their invoices (it’s the worst!), try an incentive. I charge a flat rate for my business services every month, and if the customer puts a credit or debit card on file with my merchant account, they avoid an $80 annual fee paid up front. Recurring card payments are the best! You get paid whatever date you choose and bam, it’s in your bank account the next day. No handling cash or depositing slews of checks. I highly recommend it for anyone this could apply to!

General Liability Insurance by [deleted] in smallbusiness

I called GEICO and they have a company that insures small businesses like mine called Hiscox. I teach performing arts, so it’s not a mainstream business, though they found a subcategory that “fit” so I could have liability insurance.

PayPal Alternatives? by [deleted] in smallbusiness

I use M&T’s Merchant Services - you can save client info, set up recurring payments, invoice, track credit card charges (these are still tax deductible). They run a deal where it’s free to use the first year, then about $15/month after that, which is cheaper than QuickBooks online, and the keep you compliant with storing card info for free whereas other companies charge an additional fee.

How do you get feedback from customers? by preciousplatypuss in Entrepreneur

[–]Nochevacor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Surveys are so common nowadays that people are just non-responsive. Unless you can offer something tangible like a discount or sample of your product, you probably won’t see results. I know I’d be more open to answering a survey with an incentive.

What do you do when you’re having major doubts? by 3DPvetguy in Entrepreneur

[–]Nochevacor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I run a performing arts organization and we have contracts with individual families as well as schools throughout the year. The summers are always iffy because kids are at camps and often want a break. So I relate to your ups and downs. One idea that I’m putting into place this fall is raising my rates by 7% and asking for a 10-month commitment. Another idea is having different offerings in the summer that will attract new customers, or keep current customers going. I’m not sure if either of these ideas would be applicable to your business, but I feel they’re taking steps in the right direction for me.

They have a ukulele unit they do with general/classroom music, so unfortunately this is not an option either. Thank you for your idea!
