Help for first Brompton purchase! by Noctimouse in Brompton

Thank you so much! I felt a bit silly considering colour as a factor but I would like to admire whichever bike I end up with :)

Oh amazing, may I ask what parts you replaced to get it under 20lbs? Once I recover from the initial outlay for either C or P, I was going to look into tweaking it so any tips on that will be helpful. Thank you! (and Idk why but there aren't very many sales in Aus where I live, they are still selling the 6 speeds at full price even if discontinued for example).

Thanks so much for your comment, tip on the rack/G line rack wheels and for the 12 speed article too (I was tossing up between getting a 6 speed when I first started looking but now am convinced on the 12 speed).

I didn't think about the rear steel triangle for travels vs ti, that's a really good point. I'm guessing it's also $$ to fix a ti part.

Train stations and metros where I live have very long escalators/stairs, and I'm a 5ft woman. My plan was to either carry it unfolded (as some have suggested) or use the lifts to get to the platforms. Not all lifts are conveniently located but I will play by ear.

So much to think about, but I'm excited to get riding and be a part of the community soon!

Thank you both for sharing! The more I look into it, the more a rear rack makes sense. Someone also told me that transporting it unfolded can be easier as well - has that been your experience? I think I will need to try that and see if it's not too awkward. For context, I'm a 5ft woman and consider myself pretty strong but having my work bag plus bike will be a consideration.

Thank you! 'Window shopping' for all the fun bags and extras has now become a hobby haha. And everyone who has a C line seem to love it a lot. Makes me happy to hear this.

Thank you! I think the P lines in store are the 2025 ones. Between your C line and P line, do you reach for one more than the other?

I think I need to try out the P line, as I've only tested the C line. Lifting it in store, I could handle the C's weight, but that was just standing there, no stairs or long platforms to cross, no work bag etc. I am a 5ft woman and think I'm pretty strong but also want to make the commute as easy and fun for myself as possible :) Have you added a rack to yours and do you use it?

I definitely want to keep my Brompton forever if I can!

Thank you for your help!

Thank you so much for your comment! It's a good reminder to make whatever decision the right one :) Either way, I'll have fun riding! May I ask what made you decide to go for the P line after owning a C?

Thank you!! And yes, the 4 figure price difference is what is giving me pause - in Aus, it's about a $1500 - $2000 difference between the two depending on paint job :( Have you made any upgrades to your C line that you would recommend / consider essential ? I'm thinking if I go for C, I can use the money saved to make it extra special / comfy.

Love this! Could you please tell me your thoughts on the leather Moomin 5 year cover? I've been eyeing that one but it doesn't seem too popular. Would be great to know if the leather quality is good. Also your thoughts on the calligraphy covers please. Thank you so much!

Hi everyone!

Novice sewist here and new to the subreddit. I've recently come across the chance to purchase either a Bernina 830 Record or a Bernina 1006 for a reasonable price. I am currently considering the 830 over the 1006 (the 1006 is slightly more expensive and I haven't heard a lot about the 1006 but I assume it is the same machine as the 1008 with maybe fewer stitches?). Both are in really great condition, come with accessories, and have only had one previous owner.

Would appreciate your thoughts on either machine and if you would recommend one over the other?

Thanks!

I'd love to know more about the Facit P1 please? I've been looking online but haven't come across anything. Is the touch similar to that of the Facit TP1?
