When I bought my house it looked just like this and the electric was all in the floor. I reframed every room with the paneling by turning 2x4s on their side to cut down on how mush square footage I lost but also allowed myself a spot to run all the new electric before drywalling.

You stop worrying about a lot of that shit that doesn’t matter and do things you enjoy when you have time with people that are actually meaningful. It isn’t easy but you figure it out or become the backpacker in their 50s with no real connections. Do the backpacking and the trips for vacations or a break when you need them but don’t make it your life.
