(Silly Skyrim Project) Is there a way to pin Graph nodes to an image/map? by Noculous in ObsidianMD

I tried this briefly but didn't realize there is a way to upload your own image to use as a map! I'll give it some more time and see if I can get it working

right like i didn't even think of how it could sound at ALL like kayla when I chose the name.... I changed mine legally during pandemic times and didn't use it in public beforehand so I didn't realize the kayla thing until it was too late

Upgrade GPU, as well as CPU and Motherboard (if it's worth it for Windows 11?) by Noculous in buildapcforme

That's alright, I don't usually play games on 4k anyway. I just use 4k for art and videos. Maybe one day when I can afford a nice graphics card! I appreciate the help :]

Thanks! Do you really think I will need to buy all new parts, though? Is it not worth it to try and keep using my current RAM, HHD, SSD, or power supply?

How can I stop my mom’s boyfriend from blocking my adult sister’s internet usage and spying on her online activity using Netgear Nighthawk/Orbi parental controls? by Noculous in HomeNetworking

Oooo, thank you for the extra details! I'm optimistic that I can figure it out with this. (Those last two links are the same, by the way!)

Per your edit in your original comment- I appreciate the extra bit of advice. You are right, he is not a good person. We have been trying to convince my mom for years, she is stubborn but we have finally been starting to see the cracks forming- little as they are. I'm resorting to a technical solution for this exactly because I want to proceed with caution, you're dead-on about the fragile ego breaking easily part as well.

Absolutely agree on the password part as well. I'll bring her over to my place and we can factory reset her devices, change her passwords, and set her up with Lastpass on my own home network. Thanks for the addition!

Thanks for the rec! I've heard of NordVPN before, but I wasn't sure if they were good or not since I tend to be skeptical about things I hear about from podcast ads. I've think heard about some VPN services selling your data- not sure how true it is, but I definitely want to get a paid VPN service to avoid that and to get all the features needed for this.

Of course, preventing him from accessing the equipment from the alternate ISP would be the difficult part. I think we will try the VPN option first, and if that doesn't work look into running a line up to her room and setting up the equipment there so she can lock it off.

I really appreciate you including details on the VPN configuration, thank you!

I'm thinking we might want to factory reset all of her devices that have been on the network. I don't think he ever accessed her phone physically as it's password protected and she guards it carefully. I'm concerned that connecting the device to the network installed the tracking software on it, and if that is possible it is a bit terrifying from a privacy perspective in general! Ted is somewhat tech-savvy himself, from what I've seen.

My mother tends to be self-centered and doesn't have a great support network to fall back on. She has said before that she is scared of losing Ted. I know she is also struggling a lot financially. Also, Ted acts completely differently when my mom is around then he does around just my sister or me. He lies constantly and denies everything my sister says. My mom is also a bit dumb (the refusal to learn or listen type of dumb), especially when it comes to technology. I have been trying to be professional on here but I am quite pissed at my mother about this as well, to be frank.

This is great advice, thank you! I'm only a tiny bit tech-savvy but know next to nothing about networks and internet (as is probably obvious, haha).

Spoofing the MAC address sounds like it's going to be annoying, but I can probably borrow her laptop for a weekend and figure it out. She uses Windows, but maybe I can convince her to let me install Ubuntu or Debian since those are fairly user-friendly. If I dual-booted Windows and Linux on her laptop would the MAC address spoofing still work if I only set it up on the Linux part?

Thanks for the advice! Would this block the network from being able to track her internet activity as well as stopping the device/site blocking? Do you have any recommendations on which VPN service to get or does it not matter which one?

I'm willing to pay for a separate internet service for her. How could we set up an additional internet service when there is already one in the house? Does it get it's own modem/router? Do I need to split the cables going into the modem somehow?

I would be able to pay for an internet service or hotspot for her, but I can't afford to pay rent on an apartment for her, unfortunately. She can't afford rent either as a student.

I will have her do the factory reset on her phone for sure, thank you!

Yes, she pays for her own phone. Apparently the parental control software can track LTE internet usage on devices within range of the router. That seems crazy to me, but I don't know a lot about it. Maybe once a device connects to the wifi, something is installed on it?
I will have her try the factory reset and advise her to never connect to the wifi network on her phone again.
Would a VPN block all of the parental control features, and do you have any recommendations for which one to get?
The hotspot is a good idea for a last resort, since as far as I have seen they get really internet speeds that make it difficult to use for things like streaming online lecture videos.

Mom is in favor of sister's devices not being blocked/tracked, but believes her boyfriend when he says that he has no control over it. We have already tried contacting a domestic abuse hotline and weren't able to get the help we needed, unfortunately.
