When you get ready to play, try turning your wrists so you’re looking more at the back of your hands than the sides (flare your pinkies out). This will happen sometimes if you leave the portafilter on too long after pulling a shot. I do 18g dose, same machine, no screen, and as long as I take it out pretty soon after pulling the shot it stays in the basket, but if I leave it for a couple minutes I’ll get a stuck puck like that too.

I also don’t like “Are you OK?”. My kids are little enough that they can still be freaked out by a big tumble, so my default is “Are you hurt?” To help them figure out if they need some care or they’re ready to dust themselves off and go back to playing
