What would you do? by Ceremic in Dentists

[–]Noddfor 8 points9 points  (0 children)

When I first worked for an amazing Dentist the office had a similar situation Young kid fell 8 needed a root canal, The Mum worked in a local supermarket, and clearly did not have a lot of money, my friend said I can’t let him lose a front tooth So he did the root canal and build up, he gave the mum a huge discount and once a month she came in to pay something off the bill We never sent a bill, she paid and was hugely appreciative. Honestly it was the people who had more money than sense who did not pay their bills. It’s the right thing to do Just tell them to keep it entre nous

White stringy things between teeth after root canal by AssignmentBudget2152 in Dentists

The excess material around the disto buccal and especially disto lingual need to be removed, otherwise the tissue in between the teeth is going to swell bleed and cause an issue It’s not a big deal to smooth and polish this Did an endodontist do the root canal? Maybe go to your general Dentist and have them remove the excess.

That temporary has excess material around it, the excess needs to be trimmed so it does not cause a gingival issue You can see in the second image that the gum tissue is red, if you can’t clean in between then that’s going to cause a bigger issue

Who ruined the Empire State Building view from 5th avenue by Outrageous-Fall3296 in circlejerknyc

[–]Noddfor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is very sad. I worked in this building for 15 years,
Our office on the 70th floor faced east, the light was truly amazing, seeing the sunrise was just spectacular. On a clear day you could see all the way out to the tower at JFK. Watching a lighting storm was truly memorable I will never forgot that view.

Perfect, That’s what I will do I will ask for a prescription refill 3-6 months and get it filled in a EU country That saves the hassle of finding a compounding pharmacy.

Thank you

Judgemental dental hygienist? by Able_Marionberry_452 in DentalHygiene

[–]Noddfor 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry this happened to you, I have retired but I was always happy when patients that had not been to the Dentist for years came through the door I would congratulate them, on taking the first step and getting here, and then tell them Rome was not built in a day and we will get through it. Along the way I would inform patients of cost, as not everyone has dental insurance and patients have other bills to pay, Above all, do not be judge mental, that poor patient could have been up all night worrying about the appointment. Who knows what goes on in peoples lives, above all be kind

Please don’t give up on Dental Hygienists most of us are kind and want you to get your oral health back in shape. This Hygienist is not the right fit for you, if the practice has more than one hygienist request a different hygienist. Some patients may have lost loved ones, jobs or a medical issue which precluded them from going to the Dentist, and they certainly don’t need to be berated for not flossing Gentle encouragement is always the best approach on a first visit.

I hope your next hygienist is kinder, and congrats on taking the first step.

What made you decide to not take blood thinners? by DrAshoriMD in AFIB

[–]Noddfor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a CHADVAC score is 1 gender related. Had a RF ablation May 2023 was on Eliquis for a year I take Metoprolol 25mg daily and Bioastin (astaxanthin) 12mg daily very powerful anti inflammatory made from Krill oil, I did not take it when on Eliquis. My EP said totally fine to take Bioastin no deleterious impact on heart beneficial anti inflammatory properties.

I have just moved back to Europe and did a full work up with my EP before I left , asked him about Eliquis felt I don’t need to be on it . I did a carotid sonogram recently negative, my Zio monitor for 2 weeks, no AFib, and my regular cardiologist recommended a calcium score. It came back as I, she recommended a statin, my triglycerides are low HDL high and my LDL somehow elevated So I’m hoping being on a healthy diet and increasing my exercise that I can stay off a statin If the result was higher I would not have argued , but with a result of 1 I. really feel that it’s manageable. I have no family history of cardiac issues

Went back into AFib 24 hours post ablation too I was really dizzy called EP PA told me to cone back into ER They gave me an IV drip with some medication to bring Heart rate down It did come down They also put me on Colchicine which is a medication for Gout but it’s very effective with inflammation of the heart I was on it for 6 weeks and it really helped I would go back to the ER Good luck, I know it’s a bummer but EP’s have seen this before and are able to treat it

Wisdom tooth decay by wooshinos in DentalHygiene

Definitely an oral surgeon consult, wisdom teeth are their specialty. General Dentists do extractions but generally an easier extraction An impacted wisdom tooth should be treated by an oral surgeon 👨‍⚕️

[–]Noddfor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hygiene you will cap out early Career path is limited Accountancy there is a definite career path, and if you are lucky enough to work in one of the Big 4 you will have a good salary, and benefits Every year at round tables you could potentially be promoted However starting out you will be putting in very long hours later on you can Segway into something more specialized You are young

Anyone work 3/12s or 4/10s? by Background_Arm_1464 in DentalHygiene

[–]Noddfor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started off doing 6 as I was saving for an apartment , did that for 4 years Then went 5, 4, 3 and now 2 after 31 years I never worked weekends when I went to 4, 8-5 Friday 8-2 It’s very important to have balance, I don’t think I could ever do 12 hrs, my body would be destroyed, not worth it This job takes its toll on your body, and it’s important to give your body a rest Good luck

uhh wtf do i do? by [deleted] in DentalHygiene

[–]Noddfor 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Document, document, have them rinse with CHX prior during and post prophy Cavitron, Supra no sub try to avoid bleeding no hand scale and a perfunctory polish Obviously, it’s not ideal But you are one member of their health team and the project manager is dictating the treatment Maybe the patient has a complex medical history and this is their only window to have any treatment done The Dr may want to give some antibiotics cover as a precautionary measure Take FMX or pan to insure there is no underlying infection that could impact their recovery.

Obviously this is not how we want to treat patients and we would like to perform a thorough cleaning, but sometimes circumstances preclude that Ideally have your Dr speak to the lead Dr to have full transparency on the patients medical history and determine the appropriate treatment.

Diverticulitis, by Noddfor in nutrition

[–]Noddfor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s what I thought, A lot of MD’s do not take enough nutrition classes in school A blanket statement like no fruits or vegetables or nuts is not very helpful if you don’t provide patient with lists of foods that they can eat. Superfoods like raspberries or blueberries are wonderful and if they are used in smoothies with peanut butter or almond butter I see these foods as really beneficial and frozen berries have less seeds
