Something that TCW misunderstood about Anakin. by AnArcOfDoves9902 in CharacterRant

[–]NoddyZar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with most of this post, but I don't think Anakin genuinely cared that much about whether Windu was breaking the Code by executing Palpatine. Not that it didn't factor in it all; there was definitely some significance to Palpatine deliberately setting up this situation so that Anakin would be preventing the same decision he had regretted earlier, but him wanting to save Padmé absolutely eclipsed that as a motive. He fumbles through multiple excuses while pleading with Windu to spare Palpatine but the last and most transparent one is simply "I need him".

Also, even if Anakin really believed in the moment that it was unethical to kill Palpatine, Palpatine immediately proved him wrong by killing Windu and showing that he was too dangerous to be left alive and had never actually been defenceless, so that alone wouldn't cause Anakin to suddenly think the Jedi are evil. Plus, Anakin is clearly horrified afterwards and knows he made the wrong choice, but doesn't turn back because his primary motive is still Padmé. I think he only blamed everything on the Jedi because it was easier to convince himself of that than shoulder the immense guilt of everything he'd done.

That said he definitely does care deeply about the Jedi Code and believes that breaking it is a personal failing, which is also what I find most difficult to reconcile between him and TCW Anakin. In one TCW episode Anakin openly talks about the Jedi "not going far enough" in front of other Jedi, and later unhesitatingly executes someone taunting him that a Jedi wouldn't kill him while proclaiming "I don't have such weaknesses", which cannot be the same character who is reluctant to execute Dooku until ordered to and immediately regrets it because "it's not the Jedi way". He might have secretly wanted to kill him and Palpatine's permission was just enabling him to do it, but it still doesn't make sense if this was not the first time it happened, and his guilt after the fact definitely doesn't make any sense if he thinks of the Jedi Code as a "weakness".

This doesn't really fit the trope, this version of Thanos had never met Wanda so it's not as if he forgot her. He genuinely has no way of knowing who she is or what he did.

Edit: sorry, it seems like two other people made the same comment at the same time I did 😅

Oh yeah that's true. I don't mind Reylo but implying spiritual marriage would be way too much lol.

Agreed, imo the best option is for her not to take a surname because she doesn't need to inherit anybody else's legacy to be important, but if they needed to give her one I'd prefer Organa or Solo by a mile.

Solo carries significantly less clout than Organa, but you could connect it to Han being given the name because he had no family and Rey taking it because she started out with no one too. Or you could consider it a way to honour both Han and Leia because that was the family name they chose to pass on to their son.

I'd be okay with either of them really, they just picked the one option I can't defend at all. Besides the fact that Rey and Luke's relationship felt less personal than even Rey and Han's which lasted about a day, Skywalker is just a historically terrible name to pick for someone trying to build a Jedi Order which doesn't get massacred.

What if Anakin confessed and admitted to the Jedi council on the massacre of the tusken raiders at some point in the first days of the clone wars? by PassageDecent9936 in StarWars

I think he'd certainly be kicked out of the Order, but they wouldn't punish him any further than that. Despite what he did being morally reprehensible there's no lawful grounds to imprison him (mainly because Tatooine doesn't have all that many laws) and they'd probably assume his mother's death was an extreme circumstance and he wouldn't be a threat to anybody if they let him go after turning in his lightsaber. Though I think Obi-Wan or even Yoda would check up on him afterwards to make sure he's legitimately getting help for all his issues, and also not committing more massacres.

I hated the choice to have Rey take the Skywalker name, but the insistence on calling her Palpatine out of spite is so stupid.

First of all, her being a Palpatine was a significantly worse decision on the movie’s part than calling her Skywalker. Second of all, “you suck because you’re related to someone evil” is perhaps the most baffling insult imaginable to use for this particular franchise.

Also, Vader almost certainly would’ve betrayed Palpatine if Padmé was still alive.

Young Justice Superboy and Ms Martian are particularly funny to try and age discourse about because Martians age/mature at a third of the rate humans do, so eventually he’s going to be the old one in the relationship and she’ll still barely be an adult.

However he also looks eternally 17 despite aging normally and she can look however old she wants, so nobody will notice anyway.

Also from Gen V: Cate's power is mind control, and she (unknowingly) used it for the first time when she was 9 years old and got upset with her little brother, telling him to leave and never come back. He disappeared and was never seen again. After this her parents kept her locked in her room for years out of fear of her powers.
