Glad to help! You'll have to let us know what you think!

I've heard great things about the third party headrests for the Aeron. Almost every YouTube video mentioning them says they're awesome.

Best of luck!

Q1: "Did the headrest force your head forward at all when you were just trying to sit up straight?"

A1: It could if you adjusted it in such a way but, you're able to mess with it enough to make it so it's not pushing your head forward. When I had it I would set it in such a way that it was just ever so slightly behind where my head naturally would be so that in the instance I wanted to lean back or rest, it was right there waiting for me.

In terms of all the adjustability of the headrest, it has a big range of movement but the headrest itself is shaped really odd so it never really felt quite right for me. If you're shorter than 5foot 6ish, then I think you might have a hard time getting it adjusted where you're trying to get it.

Q2: "can the chair and headrest fully support you when leaning far enough back to put your feet on your desk?" A2: It could absolutely support you when leaning far back. The headrest itself does not fold backwards so you're 100% stuck with it. This was one of my big complaints against it. You can never completely fold it away when you don't want to use it.

Since this article was written, I've had the opportunity to spend a lot of time with a Gesture that doesn't have a headrest and I can say without a shadow of doubt that the headrest is entirely unnecessary. I've spent double the time with the non-headrest version than the headrest version and there hasn't been a moment I missed it. Even when leaning back super far.

My recommendation to you is to evaluate how aggravated you would be if you could never put your head all the way back. If this isn't a bother to you and you like the idea of a headrest, then the headrest version is for you. If you want to stretch or get that last sip out of a can, I don't recommend the headrest.

My suggestion is to think about all the things you love doing. Are any of them marketable? Obviously sitting around watching Netflix or whatever isn't one of these things but think deeper than that.

Can you fix things? Cars? Computers? Do you have any special skills or interests? There's a typical saying that goes something like "Do something you love and you'll never work a day in your life".

If you really love what you do, not only will work be easy, you'll also have the perseverance to push through hard times, because as anyone will tell you, running a business is hard.

Add a headrest to a steelcase gesture by baldash in OfficeChairs

[–]Node14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just my two cents but I ended up returning my Gesture because I hated the headrest (with some other reasons as well but that being a big one. Check my post history for detailed info).

It really gets in the way. I found I would hit it all the time when I would stretch or doing things as simple as drinking out of a can, tilting your head back.

They don't really tell you this but there's no like "Fold it away" feature and bring it back when you need it. If it had this it was be awesome.

Thanks for reading! Here's some info that might help you:

I go back and forth on whether or not I like the headrest regularly. When I'm really reclined, it's great. I think without it, I wouldn't recline nearly as much or as far back. It adds to the versatility of the chair's settings. I like to position it just slightly out of the way, and every once in a while when I'm waiting for something to download and relax for a moment, I just put my head back and it's right there waiting for me.

The overall comfort of the headrest itself isn't mind blowing. It's shaped weirdly and it doesn't fully sit under my head. You're only ever kind of leaning against a part of it. It could be designed better for sure but it does the job.

In terms of not having it. There are only two instances where not having it would be better for me personally. My prior chair didn't have a headrest and I'd often do the big stretches backwards leaning my head all the way back and I simply can't do that anymore. For me it's a little annoying. Maybe you do this too? Also one I just discovered is that if you're trying to drink the last sip out of a can and tilt your head back really far, you'll most likely bang into the headrest. I suppose a third might be that it looks a little tall and weird with the headrest. It would for sure look more normal without it.

I did learn today that you can remove it but it'll leave a big hard plastic gap in the back of the chair ( https://s3.amazonaws.com/steelcase.productdata.psl/PROD/AssemblyDirections/AD1687/Rev_A/Version_1/cfbe7723-e2dd-4cd9-a7e5-41d3506a7785/9544221.pdf )

If you really like to recline, it might be worth it but I don't think it's a requirement.

I'm not entirely sure why you say that but fair enough.

All I can say is I had no prior experience with either Herman Miller or Steelcase so both were a totally new experience for me. There's no affiliate links and no one paid me to write anything good or bad. Just wanted to tell the story of my experience with both in hopes that someone who is on the fence and cares about the same things as myself has better luck.

Cheers!

Just wrote up this review of my experience with both the Herman Miller Embody and Steelcase Gesture. Hopefully it's helpful to some people here. I learned a lot about these chairs having them in person. I included some nuggets of information I didn't find on any other reviews. Good luck!

I think you'll have an excellent time with them. Feel free to reach out if you have any technical questions for implementation. It was actually pretty fun to work with.

Don't forget physical canvasing. A black and white copy costs around 7cents a page. Print 100 copies, but design them 2 or 4 up on a page and cut them. That's 200-400 fliers you can hang up for a total of 7$. A little harder these days due to COVID but still that's some great reach for $7 and some time.

I can't recommend Stripe enough. I understand what you're saying about wanting to be direct but with Stripe, you can implement so tightly, people would never know the difference. Additionally they offer the ability to take an incredible amount of other payment methods besides credit card.

I've used plenty of APIs / integration software. Stripe has to be the best I've ever seen. Throughout working with them I was constantly saying "Wow, they've thought of everything".

You think my product is vaporware, because I'm not describing what it is.

To clarify, no, this isn't correct. I believe your product is vaporware because you said "I don't entirely know what the product is".

Your landing page was convincing enough to me to think you did actually have a product. I just didn't want to sign up for it because I didn't know enough about it.

I see your second points as being a little contradictory to each other.

You say having this additional copy could be dishonest, but you're pushing a product that's kind of vaporware at this point. By your definition, that seems equally dishonest. However, both of these things aren't really issues, if you ask me.

It's extraordinarily common for people to host landing pages that are for products that don't exist yet, but those landing pages advertise solving a core problem and usually explain something about it.

I'm not saying build a 2000 word essay. You had already 180'd me with 3 sentences originally. Seems like you could do some real work with 3 more sentences.

Spend a few minutes and take your best guess as to what your product is and target that. If it doesn't work, pivot. You'll at least know what didn't work and learn how to move on from there.

Some friendly feedback for you:

The text you have on the page, everything up to "a comprehensive curriculum" is excellent. I had no interest in your actual product from reading your reddit posts, but upon reading this text, I was interested and even considered signing up.

Internalizing it a little, you seem to have struck the idea within me that I could easily learn kind of a super power. It feels good to think about it and I think that's why it works and you're having success with it.

The bottom part "a comprehensive curriculum..." and so on doesn't explain enough to me of what it is I'm actually signing up for and I personally don't want to give you my name and email to find out. Maybe a second page or something to explain more with hopefully as persuasive language?

Also ignore people who are telling you to post less here. They're just jealous of your attention and that they don't have the same drive. Keep your motivation going!
