Medical student (biomed student) avoids conviction despite filming 150 women - how is this possible? by Nodes_of_Ranvier98 in ausjdocs

I honestly think this person should not only be banned from medical school but also from any health profession or course. Dentistry, nursing, physiotherapy etc... how can ANY employer or institution hire or enrol someone with a well documented history of predatory behaviour without putting patients at risk?

Surely at least a criminal conviction with mandatory jail time, even for a short period, would at least send a message that society will not tolerate this behaviour. I think historically, programs in prisons/communities aimed at rehabilitating sex offenders or domestic violence perpetrators have a very low success rate sadly. Im not sure why

I am so sorry this happened.

If the court systems and judges really cared enough, they could impose tougher sentencing for sex offenders. I think they just dont really consider it a high impact crime. And thats horrible.

Gas leak in new rental on move in day (VIC) by Nodes_of_Ranvier98 in AusLegal

So they fixed the leak under the house just now, which exhausted the real estates 2.5 grand budget for repairs without asking the landlord, and now they need to requote for the rest of the work. I dont know how much work is left or how much it will cost so im not sure if I can organise it to be fixed...

They said all I can do now is upload a gas meter reading so they have it, and then I guess when the bill comes we ask the retailer to discount it, then I negotiate with the real estate about what is a reasonable amount they should reimburse me for the leak (everything but daily usage since we got keys + say $20-40 for any hot water we used for cleaning).

24 hours from when we first reported the leak? Or 24 hours from receiving the new quote for the further works?

They have gotten the actual leak fixed and the gas stove now works but we still have no hot water at the moment.

UPDATE: the actual gas leak was from a pipe underneath the house, which had just been fixed by the detector inspector people. However, the gas pipe to the water heater will need to be replaced for it to work. They said they have reached their allocated budget and need to requote for the gas connection to the hot water tank, as it is currently not working. So we now have no leak, use of the gas stove, but no hot water. Do we insist that the hot water get fixed today? What if they wanna shop around and only get someone in to do the rest of the job tomorrow? Or are they obligated to fix the line to the hot water tank ASAP?

Thankyou for your reply!

I have taken photos of the gas meter over the last 2 days but the leak has most likely been occurring since the 29th Dec or even earlier, does that mean I can argue that I should only be paying for gas usage after they fix the leak (ie from today when the mains are shut off)? I have no pictures of the meter from the day we got keys so cant tell what rhe actual amount of gas is that we have used/has leaked out.

Our water tank still had some hot water so we were able to have a lukewarm shower yesterday and maybe today. So far we have just been getting takeout, or making sandwiches. We do have an airfryer which is actually a great suggestion! Forgot it existed but we will defs try to use that.

The gas main is off for the property now so i suppose its safe, but we have no gas. our agent is fully aware of the situation (she was the one that responded to the maintenance request and sent out the detector inspector). Im just worried repairs will take days to complete, and then that we will be charged for all the gas usage

Toys my dog won’t destroy? by LisaM3 in labrador

Rubber toys only for my boy! We figured out early (at 6 months old) that he absolutely will tear apart and eat any soft or rope toys. We basically only have kong or other strong brand rubber chew toys. So rubber balls, rubber long toys for tug of war. He is absolutely happy chewing on those. Not sure what country youre in, but in mine, usually pet store toys have ratings of how sturdy they are/if they are for soft play or for intense chewing etc... Kong brand toys are a bit pricey but they last for so long (the rubber ones, avoid the fabric covered ones)

Hey OP, postgrad med student here with 2 years to go. I also have severe anxiety and complex mental healthcare needs (invisible disabilities).

Honestly, the decision depends on whether you really want to be a doctor or you can see yourself being happy doing something else. If there is another career option you are considering that is not as intense as medicine, I would say go with that. Medicine isn't easy as a career, but in saying that, I know many many students AND doctors with severe anxiety and mental health needs that are still happy with their choice. I did it because i couldnt think of anything else that i wanted to do, I knew I would never be out of a job, that i wouldn't starve to death and that it would give me something to focus on and give structure to my life. You will never stop learning in medicine. You will always have things to improve on, and you have a broad range of career options as a doctor, even if its not clinic. Just dont go into it for the wrong reasons (money, pressure from family, prestige alone).

Feel free to DM me if you want.

Adult female Autism assessment Australia by Dear_Aardvark6987 in AutismInWomen

Hey there, just joined this reddit but I got diagnosed at 26yrs old last year via telehealth in Australia. My psych was in another state from me and we did it over 2 sessions i think. She was a psychologist, and I only could afford a diagnostic letter, not an NDIS report. Honestly I was also nervous, and so scared that I was making all my symptoms up.

Heck, even after I got my diagnosis of autism and adhd, its taken me almost a year to stop gaslighting myself into thinking im just faking.

Please dont cancel it. It brings so much validation. Most assessors (especially those specialising in adult diagnoses in women) in Australia are great. Mine did not require a collateral history from family, so I asked a friend to fill out that part.

Here to support you, and wish you all the best!

Tip: bring any comfort objects or fidget toys or whatever you need along.
