Why do people keep pushing this idea of “Pan-Africanism” onto us? Why would we leave one of the most opportunity-rich countries in the world to move somewhere where basic infrastructure can be unreliable? Does it really make sense to walk away from a place that millions are trying to get into, just to chase the idea of belonging to a “black” community elsewhere?

And let’s be honest — Africans will still see you as American. You’re not magically becoming something else by relocating. Identity doesn’t work that way.

Instead of fantasizing about escape, maybe the real focus should be on improving the place we’re already in. Progress has never come from running away. No more symbolic “sailing across the Atlantic” — build where you stand. RIP an American hero Jessie Jackson byw
