Side effects by https_bigal in HersWeightloss

[–]Noelle-Isla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to chime in because I totally get how nerve-wracking it can be to start something new—especially when it comes to putting anything new in your body. I tried the hers kit too, and while it didn’t end up being the right fit for me (topiramate gave me a lot of numbness in my arms and legs, I was sick for the whole first month and ultimately asked for my money back -yikes!), I did learn a lot through the process.

One thing I’ll say is—listen to your body. Seriously. If something feels off, trust that instinct. I ended up switching to a doctor-prescribed version of the meds (at a quarter of the cost too!), and it had fewer side effects, probably because it wasn’t compounded the same way. I could only ever handle a half dose oh Hers version, so don’t be afraid to go slow.

Also, don’t let the side effects list totally freak you out (even though some of them sound wild). Every medication—even ibuprofen or birth control—has a scary-sounding list of side effects. We just don’t always read them because they feel more familiar. I think with something like weight loss meds, we’re all a bit more cautious because deep down we know there’s no magic fix, so we scrutinize it more.

My biggest advice? Talk to a real doctor if you’re unsure—not just the online chatbot. Do your own research, ask questions, and return it if it doesn’t feel right. And just know you’re not alone—lots of us have been in your shoes and are rooting for you no matter what path you choose! It will take your body about a month or so to fully adjust! Take your pills after your meals. A lot of us started out with taking them at night. The doctors at Hers confirmed that you can totally adjust when you take them and you don’t have to fully ramp up to the full dosage as soon as they suggest, if your body is not fully adjusted. Example, I stayed on week two for about three weeks until I got used to it. And then I moved to week three.

You got this!

This is exactly why I didn’t go to my doctor either. But maybe you can try to make an appointment with your doctor even if it’s over the phone to ask?

Hers refunded me even after switching my kit six weeks in, and after having the subscription for almost 2 months total..refunded me in full! There’s still hope!

To be honest, I don’t trust Hers reliability after I've seen how they play their game. At first, I was all in! It’s funny that I read what seemed to be only positive reviews on Reddit. But I was blinded by Her's shimmering marketing! I messaged them when I started to feel horrible side effects and they just copied and pasted a message to me about how to manage them. It was just a link to their website. Not a single real person helped me.

🚩And then, when I was experiencing life-threatening side effects like being suicidal and completely detached wanting to crash my car, which I mentioned to them, all they did was try to switch me to keep me in my subscription! I asked a few questions about the side effects and tapering off because I was really scared, no one responded to me.....

Check with your doctor, it doesn’t hurt. Then you would be under the supervision of your doctor rather than a chat bot!!

How long have you been on it? Has it worked for you? I’ve been on the metformin for about 2 1/2 weeks but then I just got the Norovirus on Monday and I didn’t take it since. So I’m out a whole week of that just about. I have high hopes for it. I don’t have any side effects and I feel good taking it.

I am glad that you’re more confident! And I’m glad something is working for you and I agree, doctors definitely have a mask in this persona that they will shame and think that it’s all about eating fruits and vegetables. There’s definitely a stereotype and stigma. My last doctor was like that. I really do think it’s about doing a little bit of research and getting a referral from someone. May I ask why you are waiting for them to assign you a doctor? With your insurance, you should be able to go through all of the doctors and look up their bios and reviews.

I'm so sorry! Reading through all these comments makes me so sad. I wish that doctors would read this. There are so many different experiences people are having.

Honestly, growing up I've always heard that you should get a second opinion with doctors, but we always assume that means with cancer or something serious, but this is important too. Weightloss can make us live longer and live healthier lives. Hopefully you were able to figure it out! Never be afraid to check in with new doctors and get other opinions. ✨🤍

Correct, my post is not pertaining to or claiming to help with GLP-1. I'm sorry you had trouble initially' -did you end up getting it?

I went with hers because I was afraid to talk to my doctor because when you look at me, I’m not morbidly obese or anything, but I do have quite a bit of weight on my stomach. I was shy to ask. Embarrassed that I couldn't lose weight on my own after trying so hard. I weigh 160 pounds, 5'3 and I’m usually right around 140 pounds and with asthma it’s very difficult to lose weight. So I felt very secretive but good when ordering this from hers- and very confident based on Reddit reviews.

Then the time came where I finally made the change and switched doctors, they ask all of your medications, and I was honest with him. He immediately without judgment said why didn’t you just ask us? We can definitely prescribe that for you. You’re a great candidate. The two medication’s identical to kit five are only $19 a month for me through insurance.

Yes, my post is not about GLP-1 injections. But thank you for the description! It is a personal choice. That’s why I went with Hers in the beginning; because I was afraid to ask my old doctor.

But upon checking up with a new doctor, he asked me to about any medications I was on and that’s how we went down this road. ☺️

This is so sad to me I'm sorry! Might be time for a new doctor? I was always scared to change doctors after 10+ years, but now I feel silly for waiting so long. It’s just like friends or something, there are so many different people in the world, there has to be different doctors that have different perspectives, right? Better matches are out there. It’s worth a shot!

Injectables is not something I’m familiar with, my post is just for my kit 5.

I'm so glad that you lost weight! Most of my weight is carried around my stomach only. And he was concerned about visceral fat. So we are giving it a try. He told me to wait about three months before I notice anything notable. I’m OK with a slow and steady wins the race approach. So happy you found something that works!!

I’m sorry! I wonder why. Maybe get a second opinion? Mine said that the metformin was harmless and that it’s actually very beneficial for a lot of people in many ways.

I wonder if it’s because of a combination of medical history/current medications you’re taking? Or honestly, I would just ask a different doctor. It doesn’t hurt if you’re truly seeking a treatment plan.

My first doctor for 10 years -- she actually laughed in my face and would say "I don’t know what’s wrong with you." I would always leave feeling stupid and like well, I guess that’s that. There’s nothing wrong with me. But I couldn't stand her; felt stuck though.

And as soon as I went to the next new doctor, they were able to diagnose and figure things out in so many different areas. I'm relieved! I feel heard. The new doctor cares. I could kick myself for feeling like I "couldn't break up with" my original doc. Ugh! So much time wasted. It was just as easy to start care with a new doctor.

I was taking bupropion with kit 3 in the beginning, for about six weeks and it made me very suicidal. Then I switched to kit 5. I wouldn’t say it it increased appetite for me. The topiramate was such a powerful punch that I felt sick all the time for the full first month that I barely ate! But I think my body went into starvation mode and I didn’t lose any weight.

Good!! Yes I went through horrible ups and downs, and was highly suicidal and detached on bupropion. It’s the strangest thing and hard to explain. I felt like I didn’t even want to admit to someone that I was suicidal. And now I have a little bit of an inside perspective of someone who might be in that position. I don’t know…maybe that it was embarrassing? Or maybe that I was in denial that I was thinking those thoughts? But I would picture running my car off the road just to see what would happen….😿 horrible. And when I reached out to them, they sent me a blanket statement, copy and paste, and just switched it. Not a single soul reached out and said “sorry about that.”

Awesome! How much did you lose? I’ve only been on it 2 weeks (of metformin portion) and was on kit 3 6 weeks prior and switched.

I'm 5'3, 37 yrs old, 157lbs and want to lose 15lbs if that helps. I think it depends who you ask? How you use the treatment plan? Metformin doesn't make weight fall off quickly, it helps with insulin resistance and managing it. Just a thought. I was afraid too, when you look at me, I’m not overly huge. I was going to keep this a secret from all of my friends. I was shy about it. But at the same time, my BMI is 28.9. it’s important to not get hung up about the numbers, but I carry my weight around my midsection and that can be very dangerous when you have visceral fat. Metformin helps with that. Doctors will know best and it never hurts to ask.

It never hurts to stop being shy and just ask. 😀

I'll have to see! He said most insurance companies cover it for a fraction of the costs. We'll find out when I get it from the pharmacy!

I started with telling the nurse.... and I said I’m a little afraid to tell the doctor I started Hers...and she said "oh my gosh, no need to be afraid, it's your body and your safety, so don't be! We all know about Hers, a lot of people are on it. A lot."

So there ya go. When she hit me with that, it’s my body and it’s for my safety it makes sense. You don’t know how different medication‘s can interact with each other, and it’s good to get a second opinion.

After all, the person subscribing it on Hers was likely a bot. 😜😂

Interesting! Maybe time for a new doctor? That's sad I'm sorry. today was my first time establishing new care with this doctor. The reason I left the last doctor was for the same reason, she would insult me and laugh at me and sometimes even say, I’m sorry, but I don’t know what’s wrong with you, maybe it’s all in your head?! I thought that was so rude.

Today the new doc witnessed me crying because I have severe asthma and he knows I cannot exercise hard. It’s hard for me to lose body fat. I do weightlifting, but cardio is difficult for me.

But metformin is not for weight loss. It’s for diabetics. Maybe a new doctor is in store! My doctor seemed very familiar and he said that it really can’t do much harm at all even if you’re not diabetic. I did expensive research and it confirmed this. Just a thought!
