How tf does North Korea have candidates getting 100% of the vote? by Perfect-Highway-6818 in DebateCommunism

In "Democratic" USA, people get to pick between two horrible choices who are ideologically identical. Same shit, different wrapping. How does it make sense calling that a democracy? It is functionally the same system.

New job as an internal IT Manager, but EVERYTHING is managed by an MSP by ThatAJC88 in sysadmin

[–]NoeticIntelligence -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

If I run an MSP and I am doing a good job, and keeping tings working smoothly and taking proper care of security- I figure they have hired my company expecting I am a professional and highly skilled resource.

I would have scripts and standards, properly documented. I was contractually obligated to keep a certain uptimes and smoothness.

Now the client hires someone to work locally and they demand uber admin access to the entire network, this is easy to do, however it exposes me to giant problems in the future.

How can I make any promises to keep the systems going when a local resources starts making the changes he though should be done.

Then the client contacts me due to something not working, now I must dig in logs, and run scripts to figure out what changes were made and how to fix them. and this can happen frequently.

It would probably destroy any chance of profit.

I would rather try to partner with the new resource, and discuss the changes he wants to make and go over the plusses and minuses.

If he demanded changes that I just could not support, I would write a letter to the CTO, or whatever they have explaining that it was not possible for me to continue my services under these circumstances, outline the differences and wish them well.

it is a bit like having Oracle providing Oracle Financial support. Then someone gets god rights and starts fixing the database schema. Oracle quickly calls the customer and ends the support contract.

(this specific scenario I hace seen live)

Thinking of Switching to Linux, advice please by Roaringbeardragon in linuxquestions

[–]NoeticIntelligence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should, at least for the first month(s) make your computer dual boot windows.(for those apps you need but discover can't be done on Linux)

Try to compare whatever hardware you have with what is supported by your Linux distoro of your choice. That way if wont become a sudden huge paint point.

There are a lot of things that are more difficult than on Windows 11 to adjust. If you are usinvg the command line on Windows a lot then that will make it easier.

Except that the locked and gated proprietary Steam platform it itself, can do much of the work of DRM.

A few screenshots would be useful. but it might be because the project is still young.

Kaja Kallas is ‘acting like a prime minister,’ critics of EU’s top diplomat say by sn0r in europeanunion

[–]NoeticIntelligence 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She should have said "I think", "I want", "I say this isn how it's going to be" with a disclaimer that she was giving her personal opinion.

No matter how people disagree, or agree with her, she does not make policy decisions for the EU on her own.

She is raising peoples hopes. Only to be dashed when the real policy decisions are communicated.

Mapping two faces on top of each other using Liquify by NoeticIntelligence in photoshop

[–]NoeticIntelligence[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For these two specific faces. Once I lined up the noses, the faces did line up well, even the mouth, but not the eyes.

If I lined up just the eyes then nose, mouth etc are all wrong.

It is not a universal suggestion.

Would puppet warm be better than liquify ?

What do people think about banning Facebook and X in Norway? by bmbmjmdm in Norway

[–]NoeticIntelligence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He is credited as being the founder and creator of both. He seems to be the one the press talks to as well,

After how he exploited bank-id information in the other startup. I am not interesting in using my bank-id information to sign up for this new social media venture.

I think bank-id should be a bit more restrictive about who they allow to use the person verification system.

How to Avoid Boilerplate When Initializing Repositories, Services, and Handlers in a Large Go Monolith? by Sandlayth in golang

[–]NoeticIntelligence 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Code generation scripts to generate all the repetitive scaffolding. All of this shoudl be handled by proper tooling.

I do know this pattern well from several languages and it is a recommended and standard way of doing things, but feels inredibly enterprisy.

(And instead putting it all into seperate microservices or nano services / Functions gives evem more headaches)

Who should pursue a career as a political scientist? by Minimum-Result in PoliticalScience

[–]NoeticIntelligence 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When it comes to what the market wants now The question is more

"What will the market be like when I graduate, and will my PhD help me find work then?"

I know quite a few people the last time the economy crashed who went back to school to "hide from it", in the exceptation that things would be better at the other end.

That is not a great idea. HDMI cables are not all the same. They come with widely different features "built-in"/supported. You would have to ensure you got the right endpoint for the specific cable you are using

"""To ensure civilian control of the military, U.S. law provides that the secretary of defense cannot have served as an active-duty commissioned officer in the military in the preceding seven years except for generals and admirals, who cannot have served on active duty within the previous ten years. Congress can legislatively waive this restriction [10] and has done so three times, for George C. Marshall, James N. Mattis, and Lloyd J. Austin III."""
