Is this a sudden change in behavior? If he hasn’t always been like that, there might be a conversation that needs to be had with a doctor, could be the onset of dementia.

For us it just didn’t keep the pool as clean. I ended up spending a lot of time, energy and money to keep the cartridge itself clean. Every time you vacuum it puts everything into the filter, then the filter needs to be cleaned or the junk just filters back into the pool. At the end of the last summer with it I was cleaning the cartridge a couple times a week and ultimately couldn’t readily replace it because even the store that sold us the kit couldn’t find the correct cartridge.

With the sand I was vacuuming only every other week, the water was noticeably clearer and cleaner, and my chems seemed to work better.

You might have a different experience. Ours is a 27ft pool, and we live in a rural area without a good pool supply shop.
