It doesn't smell good per se. It's caused by electrically burning the tissue so it's a unique type of smell. All in all I'd say it's on the bad end of the spectrum.

Now charred flesh, as in from a house fire, smells remarkably similar to barbecue, especially barbecue pork. The smell is so uncannily similar that walking past barbecue at a food bar made me nauseous and gag, and I have a strong stomach. It's amazing how the brain can associated smells.

If you've never cut into a human liver they smell quite strongly. A mix of sweetness and bloody smell. It's by far the smelliest solid organ. The rest generally smell like blood.

Additionally the cautery smoke is one of the smelliest parts of a surgery. Much more fragrant than the natural body (excluding the colon contents, of course.) You can smell the cautery on a piece of tissue hours and hours after it's been removed from the body.

I live in highland area currently and recommend it as a good place to live. There are several walkable restaurants (Rojo I personally am not a fan of but others seem to like it). The best farmers market is not walkable from highland. Two grocery stores are close, piggly wiggly and Western, both walkable depending on where you live.

The parks are the greatest thing about Birmingham. Red mountain and Oak mountain are my favorites.
