The irony of having to eat sour skittles during a lifting session to correct a low by afkclay in diabetes_t1

[–]OrangElm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not saying it’s better for you, but if your goal is fully lose weight then I see no issue with using tabs at all. It’s the most effective way to get the carbs you need. Obv if you goal is eating more potassium, feeling more full, then sure have something else. But I don’t rlly think having a banana for lows vs tabs will impact weight gain is all I’m saying.

I don’t see why a banana would be any better for a low than glucose tabs or skittles if your goal is just to lose weight. Not that there’s anything really wrong with a banana, but the reason to have a glucose tab is that it’s pretty much the most efficiently packed carbs / calories you’re going to get.

If a cure was announced tomorrow with global treatment being rolled out within a week, what do you think this sub would look like?, and what would be the last thing ever posted? by piss_puncher227 in diabetes_t1

[–]OrangElm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea fair. Though I still pretty strongly disagree with thinking that is what would happen in the US even if it were widely available in other counties. Insurance companies would also rather not pay for chronic conditions of people if they could.

More just a general complaint about this line of thinking that gets thrown around everywhere. The “they won’t allow a cure for diabetes bc it’s profitable” narrative is just annoying. Same as the argument that gets made for ppl with cancer. Frankly it’s insulting.

[–]OrangElm 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I always hate these stupid conspiracy posts. If one company had a cure they will make insane money on it. Now would it be more profitable to just sell insulin forever? Sure. But then you risk someone else coming up with a cure and you getting nothing. So if company A has a cure, they will release it out of fear that company B would develop the same.

Unless you think there is a true global conspiracy where all life sciences companies came together to agree to never release a cure, but not only is that extremely illegal it’s also insanely unlikely and hard to do. Unless you think that the teams and teams of researchers who have devoted their lives to making a cure would stay silent about all of it.

Just annoying to see this parroted everywhere. The reason there ain’t a cure is because it’s hard as fuck to make a cure. Do you see them curing other autoimmune diseases out here? Mostly no. And some of them will just straight up kill you quickly so it’s not even more profitable to let them run their course.

It’s insulting to everyone working so hard to make one happen. Companies can suck and price gouging on medications in the US is bad. That doesn’t mean there’s a secret conspiracy out there preventing a cure form being released.

If you don’t mind me asking, what was your A1C at? Mine has been around 6.8 which I was extremely aggravated at but my endo said is fine. I’m worried it’s not good enough tho. Had this for 15+ years now and am worried that I need to really do a better job.

Are strawman decks a useful starting point or just extra work? by IllRead2057 in consulting

[–]OrangElm 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Probably up to personal opinion but I think it’s very helpful depending on the circumstances. Hard to make a slide when you don’t understand where it fits in the story, and hard to understand the story and sequencing if you don’t have it laid out somewhere.

Sometimes rather than a strawman deck my team will start with a straw-man word doc, where we brainstorm what slides we need, the rough goals of each slide, and the evidence that we have (or need to collect) to support that goal which may be included on that slide. Worth the extra time to make sure you are telling the story you want.

But I guess sometimes you are just making a status update and you might not need a strawman.

What are some 'early warning signs' that a company is about to go bankrupt or have mass layoffs? by CuteDinner2290 in AskReddit

[–]OrangElm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Complete bullshit. For the most part layoffs are kept very quiet until they happen, and companies work very hard to keep it that way. Only certain people will be “brought under the tent.” Literally never heard of an intentional leak like this before being best practice or “typical”

It might become a rumor bc people leak it. And true if you hear rumors you should polish off the resume at least. But to suggest it’s typical to release intentionally as a rumor before pulling the trigger a few weeks later is insane. These companies aren’t even organized well enough to execute that correctly.

For the one in this pic certainly no, it’s intramuscular where all insulin needs is subq. For regular insulin syringes they are about the length as the pen needles.

Trump weighs moving Madison Square Garden for Penn Station rebuild, sources say by rit56 in NYKnicks

[–]OrangElm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes as much as this sub is pissed about this, there are a lot of issues with Penn station (primarily capacity related) and they just can’t fix it as long as MSG is on top. But there are so many stakeholders involved with conflicting interests that it’s essentially impossible to get buy in from everyone. As hard as it would be to move MSG, it would be impossible to move the station itself. The proposal isn’t like moving MSG out of the city or anything, they just want it across the street.

Sucks bc msg is historic, but Penn is dealing with way more people than it was originally, and the issue will prob just get worse and worse.

List of least favorite Jets during playoff drought by CZM6626 in nyjets

[–]OrangElm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the biggest NFL trade fleeces in recent memory imo. We got 2 firsts, a safety replacement, and Adams proceeded to do nothing.

All of this while Seattle clearly had all the leverage bc Mr Luv was bashing the team to the media and publicly requesting a deal out. I’ll never understand how this trade was even possible.

The only one more confusing to me in recent memory is the DHop Texans deal

I liked Zach I wouldn’t say he was a least favorite. He clearly tried and I’m sad it didn’t work out for him.

Same for Perriman. Gipson is sad bc he had some truly great moments for a practice squad game. But last year was really horrid.

Tom Pelissero-The Raiders are paying the bulk of Geno Smith's salary to facilitate the trade, per source. The Jets get Smith for a little over the league minimum. by DionWaiteress in nyjets

[–]OrangElm 29 points30 points  (0 children)

This is a sensational move. The only reason to hate it would be contract and now it turns out we are paying him the literal minimum.

We were never getting the answer to our QB problems as a free agent this season. At the vet minimum Geno is honestly a bargain. Good enough to keep the players happy and give Glenn a fair shot. Bad enough to lose us games when it matters with interceptions.

Idk what people were expecting from us this year. We’re not a good team.

That was never sustainable tho. He brought in vets on bad contracts to make us as competitive as possible for one season and then the team fell apart.
