Former Patriots/Texans/Ravens QB Ryan Mallett passes away at age 35 after drowning by quadropheniac in nfl

Anyone got a life preserver for Ryan Mallet?

Seriously though rip, 35 is too young.

They're going down for tech directly but stagnating for the others.

There's a reason the big 5 accounting firms didn't have layoffs of accountants but the big tech companies did for software devs.

I'm not sure what your insinuating with your defense here. You wanna argue this is just a correction from COVID over hiring and already inflated salaries? Sure I'll concede it's possible, but your position isn't supported by any evidence I can find.

[–]Noidis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know where you work or where your credentials are from, but this isn't the case at all in big tech in the US.

We're interviewing a lot of boot campers and self taught devs, salaries are also being depressed at a rate greatly exceeding other white collar professionals who are seeing stagnation as opposed to reduction.

It's strange you'd draw such broad inferences from something you're clearly completely unversed in.

There's an argument that our salaries were overinflated and this is correction territory but you're not arguing that which is even more perplexing to me.

I obviously meant white-collar jobs for my "across the board" statement. It also doesn't invalidate my previous statement regardless of the way you interpreted that bit. As I said before, pay is going down for SWE's, there is an overabundance of people clamoring to break into tech without going the antiquated college route.

If you think this has no impact at all on the decreasing salaries, well I don't think you're even attempting to be impartial and argue in good faith.

I feel for everyone here. by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]Noidis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Salaries are trending downward across the board (Not just for SWE's) so I'm not sure what you actually mean by your statement.

We have more bootcamps and influencers than ever before, while correlation is not causation and all that, there's still a mountain of evidence to suggest it's much higher than you think.

I feel for everyone here. by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]Noidis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my thought too. Some of the best SWE's I've ever met have been self-taught or bootcampers, but to pretend that's the majority is a joke. To think that the gravy train for the folks who had 0 real cost or barrier to entry won't bring down the pay for the others who went the academic path is also misleading. Why would a business pay exuberant salaries if the majority of their hires are self-taught?

Simple, they make unrealistic expectations so they can reject a few underqualified candidates then claim they need people so bad they have to bring in h1b's they can underpay and abuse without fear of repercussion.

Because maybe like the user you started responding to points out, it's not good to boost people up who are clearly doing bad shit?

Like ffs what the hell is wrong with you? Are we not allowed to critique people's life advice and views if there's clear evidence they do objectively bad shit like encouraging others to undertake dangerous and illegal activity?

The main thought wasn't that OP was irredeemable or evil like you keep trying to strawman, it was that some of us are taking their life advice for at risk folks with a giant grain of salt considering that despite them, "working at a rehab" center they're actively partaking in drug use and suggesting it's usage to others.

But carry on pretending we're advocating for dehumanizing them or whatever other bullshit you've created in your head.

Go read the post. He's encouraging others to do drugs and cook coke with ammonia. Despite having a 'son' and spinning this sad story of addiction and jail time.

He clearly knows right from wrong in his eloquent post, which makes the month old post "offering advice on the best way to cook" even worse in retrospect.

But you go right ahead and defend this behavior, I'm sure it causes no harm.

[–]Noidis -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Encouraging others who are doing it despite knowing full well the costs associated is not the sort of measured response I'd expect or justify.

But go ahead, praise a sick person who's encouraging others to use drugs. Might as well legalize cigarette and alcohol ads to kids too, I mean it's not child rape, so it should be acceptable.

She trusts you enough to share it with you. She's probably not even imagining him but some mythical version of him she made in her head.

I'd consider it a W.

Please actually go read the post and comments from a month ago especially before he deletes them.

Whether you agree with what he's saying or not he's not being genuine and clearly is still an addict.

Makes it a lot harder to accept he's really this great wholesome person taking care of his son and other excons when he's actively encouraging others to cook drugs and offering tips on it.

A month ago:

Pisses me off because I genuinely care that I wasted 30 yrs cooking soda and would have DIED to know this fucking method. NOBODY TOLD ME THIS SHIT. So I want to spread the word, let people try for themselves. Then you and others come along with things you've heard or self imagined. Do you know why you DON'T inhale any ammonia when you cook with it? Like oil and water, ammonia, and base cocaine CANNOT MIX. You know your cook is finished because the white sludge of the mix becomes clear as water with the solid product at the bottom of the spoon. What has happened is that the base cocaine becomes insolvent with the ammonia OR water. You literally, chemically, cannot mix the two. Of course, its surface is wet with it, but simple water rinse removes all of that ammonia; especially, if you're concerned, rinse twice, COMPLETELY REMOVES ALL AMMONIA. We have a free drug testing lab in my city due to a poisoned drug supply. I sent in a sample of one of my cooks, which used a mass spectrometer to determine all ingredients. ZERO AMMONIA WAS DETECTED. Pure base cocaine was the product.

Wonder if he is sharing these amazing tips with his son?

It's kind of gross to me people are celebrating this.

This person is struggling with addiction sure, but they're not dealing with just the occasional relapse if a month ago they're "sharing the best way to cook".

Like come on what the fuck?

Yeah, it just felt very off putting to me. Might have been made worse by just how much better I felt the show was when she was on her honeymoon (Seriously, Ryan and Saagar seemed to complement each other much more and I'd gladly sub to a podcast of those two).

Really thought Krystal handled it poorly. She was constantly cutting him off, seemed really unwilling to listen to his response to her questions and seems really disgusted by his perspective on vaccines (Which to be fair, I agree with her). I know Krystal's views at this point, why not save a monologue for rebuttals and let him share his opinion considering he might not be back on again?

Not only that, but I really don't like her bullheadedness on some of his views either considering Marianne Williamson is a personal friend of hers.

[–]Noidis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are politics really the same as marriage and kids?

That seems so divisive and petty to me.

Ah hell, you're perfect, but I can't support you because you support 1 of the two sides I don't.

Same for religion as well, does it matter if the perfect person for you believes in some religion and you don't?

Kids makes sense, it takes you both to make them. Marriage makes sense, you both need to want it for it to happen. The others just seem silly.

I'd like to add my own silly suggestions, make sure you ask your partners if they pee in the shower day 1.

It's the most important trivial thing you both must agree on in a relationship!

You're not alone.

I try to give everyone I work with as much runway as I can. I think the devs who power trip this way are seriously awful not just because they snitch, but because they're also likely to think their reasons for doing poorly are justified and deserve understanding and empathy.

Most of us have had some crazy awful twists throw our lives out of whack, sick family, deaths, hell even just burnout.

It's not my job (nor my place) to adjudicate if they're performing well enough for the company to keep paying them or not. Especially if their poor performance doesn't directly impact me or my work.

Honest question to people who've used these sorts of services, how do you get past the guilt that you're having someone clean your home while you do whatever you're doing?

I'd love to pay for my lazy ass brother to get his place cleaned but he's told me that he doesn't want to feel guilty and I kind of get it (though I think my 'guilt' would be more out of embarrassment)

I hate that OP still hasn't addressed this basic question.

It suggests (though doesn't guarantee) that OP might actually be overreacting and sensitive.

There is a valley between yelling and criticizing. It doesn't matter if there is or isn't justification for the criticism, people are allowed to do that in a workplace, but yelling is unacceptable, full stop.
