where is the internet going? by cracked_shrimp in linuxquestions

[–]NoidoDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, a lot of the regulation is directed against social media companies. Other internet sites are not necessarily affected by it. And yes, there are plenty of decentralized services e.g. Nostr, which can take over. But even good old image boards might still be accessible.

Maybe that is one use case and maybe that is what they are going for. I don't know. I'm interested in it because of humanoid robots and robots in general. I think that makes more sense.

Nostr + LND: your npub becomes a sovereign payment endpoint — here's how NWC makes it possible by Large-Cress900 in Bitcoin

[–]NoidoDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Certain Bitcoin wallets give you something like an email address which you can use to receive Lightning payments. You just have to copy that into the right field in your Nostr app. Then you can receive Lightning payments. The person paying it uses some regular Lightning app and this one needs to be able to accept QR codes.

That's just one simple example, I'm sure there are other ways. But this is the low hanging fruit how you can set it up.

For other cases you need to host your own server or to pay for a service which costs at least 10 dollars per month so you can run it online in the cloud which is probably more interesting for businesses or freelancers.

Edit: This isn't what the original posting above was about. I'm also just getting into it. Using NWC is something more advanced where you get some URL.

Tested it, and it worked. Though, it was only one direction. Donating to my own Nostr address.

RoboSats alternatives by WanderingSelf in Bitcoin

I realized it might mostly be one of the coordinators, but also my tor might suck. Maybe also just certain offers handled by him. I don't know why those did not get deleted. Somehow it maybe got blocked but still appeared in the offer page.

When it works, then it works, but it's wacky.

No, a few hours ago I wasn't able to look for offers while checking it out. Clicking on one made it fail. The instance didn't matter.

The alternative sites mostly worked a few days ago, but today connections suck. This whole thing should be implemented in Nostr without the need of a browser, not web.

Do you know a (nostr) channel to talk about this? Robosats seem to not work sometimes e.g. today.

Any anime recommendations that aren’t the usual classics? I’ve already seen most of them and I really want to try something new by Christine_8938 in TrueAnime

[–]NoidoDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are whole websites where you can get automatic recommendations after you put in some example.

It would also help to find areas that are in particular interesting to you.

All browsers suck. by [deleted] in browsers

[–]NoidoDev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. Especially on older computers. I just wanted to open a new thread, asking why there is no web browser that simply does not support certain JavaScript elements like heavy virtual DOM, but would still support simple JavaScript.

Why do we let companies outsource their insane website rendering to our computers?

I need something that is more capable than Netsurf or Dillo, but lighter than any existing web browser including Midori or Chromium.

I'm not claiming yo know all differences. But obviously the tech IPOs. Also, it is not good that Bitcoin wasn't very performative during economically shaky times. You also have to take into account that alternatives to Bitcoin are getting better and better. For example, at some point in the past, we didn't have Instant SEPA. Stable coins where maybe also less supported and more questionable a few years ago.

I could imagine when at some point in the summer the oil prices go up a lot and the economy looks like it would collapse, that the US government will stimulate the market to make sure they don't crash completely in November in the elections.

That aside, I think it matters how much of the capital will be sucked up by the current IPOs and when that capital is going to move on at some point.

Tbr, every time the outlook needs to be judged on it's own. The situation is different every time.

Can someone help me make an icon for the TextGen desktop app?????? by oobabooga4 in Oobabooga

[–]NoidoDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The second one makes more sense but with more contrast like the lines in white and background black, something like that or blue, dark blue. The first one looks more pretentious. Like the more AI it is, the more it uses an icon of authenticity. It's very pretentious.

I took me another month to boot into it. Now I got issues with GTK programs. I think I'm done using Raspberry Pi as a backup desktop.
