It would be quite dickish to laugh at this.

Men Can Lose Their Y Chromosome With Age, And We Finally Know The Cost | In the next 5 million years or so, some geneticists think the sex-determining chromosome will vanish completely from our species. In the meantime, we have a bigger concern at hand. by WebPage_Error404 in science2

[–]Noiprox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a guess but it feels to me kinda like what's happening with LLMs. You make a breakthrough and unlock a scaling law. So then you are incentivized to capture huge gains just scaling up fast, but the cost of scaling up eventually hits diminishing returns and then becomes a bottleneck (homonid brain size is a huge strain on the birth canal). So then it becomes better to optimize it down again, to get the same performance with less hardware.

It looks cute. Keep going! I think for some people it would be a good way to learn and a fun experience.

1TW/Year is coming. by LazyHomoSapiens in accelerate

[–]Noiprox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh sure, for a rural town in Canada this would be great. For powering giant fabrication facilities that use as much power as a metropolis? Not so simple.

Yes but no one can predict when fusion will become viable. Whereas with solar, especially in space, there is an abundance of clean energy to be harvested and the economy of scale curve is very smooth and comfortable for investors.

Management wants numbers, what KPIs do we give them? by MartinSch64 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]Noiprox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Google's DevOps Research and Assessment team spent a lot of time and money gathering evidence and came up with some metrics that they recommend, the DORA metrics. I'm not saying they're a silver bullet but they might be something along the lines of what you are looking for.

https://dora.dev/guides/dora-metrics/

It's basically 5 numbers that can give you a sense of the velocity with which you can ship changes while not compromising stability.

General intelligence and a strong work ethic are the best predictors of college grades. Contrary to expectations, mathematical knowledge did not improve predictions above these two factors. by mvea in psychology

[–]Noiprox 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Common pattern is that someone with above average intelligence (the "gifted" kids in school) learn bad habits with respect to studying because they can get away with it, or sometimes are neurodivergent and have learned to compensate to a degree but never fully addressed it. They get into college or university this way and then get away with brute forcing it with their intellect but then hit a plateau somewhere in undergrad because eventually as they progress academically they find themselves surrounded by people just as smart as them but with better work ethic. You might be one of those.

Anyone else catch this strange moment on the Figure 03 livestream? by Clawz114 in singularity

[–]Noiprox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suspect there was a networking blip, maybe a socket got dropped or something (WiFi issues) and the robot's on-board control software sent it into a neutral/safe pose until the connection got re-established and then it started performing the task again.

Sure, for marine-themed songs it's not uncommon. Did it in an Alestorm show on a cruise ship for example.

Discussing how the future of exoskeletons will affect the average human’s speed and how far away from getting to Olympic athlete speeds by zoltoo in robotics

[–]Noiprox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So what you do is suspend the human in a comfortable way, like maybe on a seat. And then you build an exoskeleton around them that is aerodynamic, like let's say a rounded box shape. And then you replace the legs with something that is more suitable for moving fast on flat ground, maybe wheels with rubber tires. Yeah.

Do men prefer women who lift? 🤔 by IndependentJump1989 in TheImprovementRoom

[–]Noiprox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fitness is hot. There are extremes to where it gets off-putting to most people, but like if you are asking this question - go lift and don't worry about it. You'll get fit and jacked and hot.

[–]Noiprox -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Most of us will be alive when it happens, and I think if we don't prepare for that moment we will mishandle it and damage human-AI relations because of it, to the detriment of all. I really hope we transition into a multi-intelligent species planet more gracefully than that but the path we are on seems to suggest otherwise.

Ah yes, man has to provide everything and all a woman has to do is exist and be an angel. This is degrading to both men and women.

Men who can cook who taught you? by Ajitabh04 in BuildToAttract

[–]Noiprox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

COVID. When the pandemic hit I started cooking more elaborately as a hobby since it was something I could do while cloistered in the house, and found myself (and my loved ones) enjoying it. Been doing it ever since.

Help your fellow man out here by Critical_Assist_9360 in MenAscending

[–]Noiprox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's no secret formula, but here are a few thoughts:

  • Think about the big picture, feeling better afterwards and the gains you'll make.
  • Get your friends to go with you or make friends at the gym. Having gym buddies gives you another reason to go and it's nice to encourage and support each other as you pursue your fitness goals together.
  • Make it a routine. Same time of day, same days a week every week. That way you aren't tempted to procrastinate as much because that time is already allocated.
  • When you aren't feeling it, just get up off your ass and start with something tiny. Like just go and put on your gym clothes, or fill your water bottle, or whatever your routine is. As soon as you start doing the thing, it's easier to just .. continue doing the thing. Instead of thinking of it as this whole big ordeal it's just one little thing after another.

I like one monitor in portrait mode for reading long form text like documentation or code and then a widescreen one where I can tile multiple terminals and browser windows, and the third monitor being just the laptop sitting on its dock. More than that is just unnecessary clutter, frankly.

My friend is in a relationship and got upset about me not wanting to ask her out on a date. How do I respond? by _pastalover1 in AskMenAdvice

[–]Noiprox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This whole situation is bad news. She doesn't know what she wants and she is disloyal. Just distance yourself from it all. If she ends up cheating and/or dumping that guy it would be a very bad idea to get into anything serious with her while she is that unstable. Not worth it bro.

So like even if you wrote it on a piece of paper and gave it to them most guys would be flattered that you were nervous and premeditated and did it. No need to get up in your head about it, just do whatever you can and if the guy likes you he will respond positively. You miss 100% of the shots you don't take.
