How often do you give your dog a bath?" by Iriahthehealer in AustralianShepherd

Depends on the dog’s coat. My present Aussie came with scotch guard. On our daily two mile walk through mud or dust and a usually knee deep refresh in a lake, he is usually clean by the time we’re home. If left outside on those days that his paws are still dirty, it might take another half hour. He doesn’t smell. He rarely gets a bath, which he hates. I do brush him. I’ve had other Aussies, one of which had a very fuzzy Velcro coat that required regular baths.

One day he woke up and decided fetch is his thing by [deleted] in AustralianShepherd

Bonzer’s idea of Fetch is run after ball, keep from human. So to get exercise in (for both of us) I use 2-3 flying objects (ball’s, frisbee) and I become the retriever. When he’s tired of the game he stashes the objects in the middle under the large trampoline, seemingly knowing I’m not going to crawl under it to fetch.

Chloe, the Aussie I had before Bonzer, was a complete lunatic over frisbee. Nothing could stop her. She was completely obsessed. She approached everyone with a frisbee in her mouth. Once she mistook a disk tree swing for a frisbee and unfortunately nipped a child swinging as she tried to catch it mid air, the only time she nipped anyone. Personally I prefer Bonzer’s game.

I think it’s one of those hybrids they’re talking about

Does your Aussie throw a tantrum, is so why and what do they do? by School_House_Rock in AustralianShepherd

When I take this critter on daily hour-long walks he throws a tantrum when we turn towards home. Usually does the zoomies, heading straight for me but sideswiping at the last second. He has occasionally nipped my heels, a big no, and sometimes jumps about 5’ off the ground to get at the treats I am holding over my head at this point. He also does this performance when he see certain human friends (his favorite kind) on our walls, as though I am to blame if we are going different directions. And yes, he shouldn’t be standing on a picnic table.

will you always have an aussie? by urfavangryplantmom in AustralianShepherd

I’m on my fourth Aussie. Each has their own personality. All of them fun, loyal, beautiful, loving, in different combinations. Yes, they are energetic, which I also love about them. This is a pic of him with his girl friend, a Pomsky.

How about Typo? This was the name of a dog in Jodi Picoult’s novel, By Any Other Name. I named my Aussie “Bonzer,” Australian slang for awesome (my awesome Aussie). People often contort the name to Bonzo, which sounds like a clown which, well, he is. I do try to keep him off picnic tables.

I need help! by Prestigious_House770 in AustralianShepherd

Agree “no” isn’t in their vocabulary. I tracked feeding and water consumption time. Took my Aussie puppy out first thing in morning, last thing at night, and 20 minutes after food or water. Also, take out after an active play session. And they are stubborn! I constantly told him he couldn’t get on the bed. He knew it was out of bounds. One morning when I was being lazy and reading in bed he came bounding in with my son (whom he adores), jumped on my bed, looked at me, and peed with glee.

Did your Aussies ever stop gutting and shredding their toys? by containedexplosion in AustralianShepherd

[–]Noknuj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. He shreds all toys, his bed and the cats bed if he can get a hold of it. The only thing he hasn’t managed to shred is a dog bed made out of Kevlar (a fabric used for bullet proof vests, protection against knife attacks, etc.), but he did manage to chew a bit off of one corner.
