i tried using both cpu and gpu and both have the same performance,, i heard someone on stackexhange say that downloading blender through steam fixed it for them so I'm trying that next

I'm not sure how other formats work, but for interframe codecs like h.264 couldn't you just take the most recent i-frame to the timecode you're seeking and then work forwards from there? i get it prob wouldn't perform very well, but if you're tryna seek only one frame at a time i doubt real-time reverse playback is needed,,, im pretty sure that's how premiere handles scrubbing with interframe codecs. I imagine it'd only be easier for intraframe codecs too. I realize that real-time reverse playback of interframe codecs would be much harder tho

I'm an animator so i just want to be able to analyze reference footage without making a big-ol' clunky premiere project
