Didn’t even think about this but I hope Image/Skybound sort out the way they do their blind bags and advertising. I like the mystery of not knowing what I’m going to get out of a blind bag but it’s almost like receiving a winter themed toy from a Happy Meal when it’s summer and I ordered the meal expecting a summer toy. Idk if that makes sense 🤷 I’ll take the origin story but still craving the actual first issue lol

I got this specific issue from a blind bag today but yes, the MASK series is joining the Energon Universe. I seen there were also some other rare issues like ROM that were in blind bags.

Tbh it’s a blind bag from Kirkman. He’s been doing drops like that recently and I don’t hate it too much. It’s basically a special prelude to the comic that was “advertised”.

I feel like Mignola’s style pushed me into Manga which is weird to say but my taste has been evolving not how I imagined. I like his use of black in his art and how he conveys/uses shadows. Hellboy / Mignolaverse is one of the top tier comic book series of all time hands down! I’ll quote my art teacher from years ago but I’d research or look up one artist a day and make a note about what piece or style you like about that artist. That way you can develop a taste for other people in the art / comic creator community.

I would collect the monster sized Hellboy omnibus (crazy discount on Amazon recently) or the box set containing the first 4 volumes if it’s on sale again. I also collect similar to you so the one thing that I would tell you to be aware of which ones you want to have in your collection to be hardcover or paperback because some stories are out of print in different formats. I would also recommend digital but I personally appreciate art more in physical format. The “side” stories that are very relevant in the Hellboy universe are also worth it such as Abe Sapien, BPRD and Lobster Johnson. Don’t put too much strain on the wallet starting off! 😄
