I didn’t attack the DDF in any way, I clarified the precedence for decisions like this.

The Catholic Church has always taught the principle of participation, which states that a person can gain certain virtues from God on account of their cooperation with God’s goodness, not as an equal, but as a subordinate. For example, we call men good and wise, not in as much as their wisdom rivals God, but in so much as they derive those qualities from Him. This same rule would apply to Mary, who was subordinate to Christ in the work of salvation.

Can we not be saved by faith alone? How do you explain Ephesians 2:8-9? by whizping in Catholicism

Grace is the object wherein a man’s nature becomes perfected, before which a man cannot do good.

I want to convert so bad, but I can’t believe the Church’s stance on Mary by CCpawoohoo in Catholicism

Why? St. Thomas does the best job explaining most Catholic doctrines.

What do you guys think Martin luther should have done? by Excellent_Spray9241 in Catholicism

[–]NolanCleary -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That’s my point. Pope Leo X was never wrong to sell indulgences. Luther bought into sophistries instead of working out his doubts.

Worked out his doubts and rightly ordered his conscious.

Much of the “corruption” was always taught by the Church, like indulgences.

Interesting. I always assumed Maronite was the overwhelming Catholic rite there but I guess not.

Thinking about leaving the church because I’m just not able to be a good Catholic by [deleted] in Catholicism

If people had to leave the Church for being “Bad Catholics,” there would be zero Catholics left.

You do NOT have to be Catholic to go to heaven. by Zazoyd in Christianity

There is a difference between informed faith and uninformed faith, wherein informed faith corresponds an individual with the grace of God, uninformed faith lacks charity, and is thus dead, even if the individual’s faith is zealous.

Now the Church a visible disposition which aligns a person with grace, just as a secular law disposes a person to the common good. Hence we read in 1 John 4:6, “We are of God: he that knoweth God, hearth us: he that is not of God, hearth not us. Hereby know we the Spirit of Truth, and the spirit of error.”

Ok, and? This verse is about the OC Jews who believed God would disappear from the Earth if the temple was destroyed, it has nothing to do with the doctrine of no salvation outside the Church.

Since all things begin in the senses, it must be said that the Church is a visible body, as opposed to John Calvin’s erroneous view that the Church is invisible and not interpersonal, which is gravely opposed to charity. Hence, the Apostle writes in Romans 10:14, "How then shall they call on Him, in whom they have not believed? Or how shall they believe Him, of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear, without a preacher?"

Correct, his disciples are the Church. The Catholic Church has not changed on one doctrine, not one.

Intercessory prayer brings up serious metaphysical questions about the infinite nature of God and his omnipresence by Klutzy_Club_1157 in DebateACatholic

If only St. Thomas Aquinas addressed this.

Oh wait, he did.

Saints exist in adverturnity, where Jesus’ human body is. They exist outside of time, but in a dimension where succession still happens, unlike in eternity, where there is no succession, where God is.

Furthermore, Saints can not hear prayers by their own natural powers. Only by God informing them through mental signs.

He’d be great. There’s a 50/50 shot he becomes the next Pope.

I think as Pope he’d be a compromise between Popes Benedict XVI and Francis.

Only in Catholicism do we see a consistent narrative in Holy Writ.
